In the “Harry Potter” series, the character of Sirius Black is first introduced to readers of the books/watchers of the films in the story of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.” In that story, fans learn that Sirius Black, a middle-aged wizard who has been accused of mass murder, is Harry Potter’s Godfather. Sirius Black, in addition to being Harry Potter’s Godfather is also an Animagus, or a wizard who can shift his form into that of an animal. In Sirius Black’s case, his Animagus form is that of a large, black dog that goes by the nickname of “Padfoot.”

No matter the scene or movie that Sirius Black is featured in throughout the “Harry Potter” series, he always looks a little worse for wear. Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure captures this perfectly in their sculpt of Sirius Black, in every way including the detailing of his facial features, to his clothing, to his general posture.   

The Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure depicts Sirius Black as a thinner man with a lined, care-worn face that is covered in hair, including a beard, mustache, and long, unkempt hair. The eyes are dark and careful, seeming to almost hold real expression and the general sculpt of the face and its shape is stunningly accurate to Gary Oldman’s facial proportions.

As far as wardrobe goes, the Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure features Sirius Black dressed moderately well, or at least well enough, considering that he never appears to be dressed incredibly well in the series. The Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure has the sculpt wearing a pair of pants, a loose pin-stripped shirt, worn red boots, and a long, brown jacket with stripes running down it vertically. Compared to his Azkaban outfit, these threads aren’t too bad.  

Similar to the Professor Severus Snape figure, the Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure comes posed and brandishing his wand. This is very convenient for display, but not so much for the purpose of pose-ability. Because the figure comes pre-posed, the lines of the figure don’t work well with other poses aside from the “brandished wand” pose, because moving the figure’s joints causes the lines to go all wrong and makes the figure look incredibly unrealistic. There are several good points of articulation on this figure, including ones on the ankles, wrists, shoulders, neck, and more. In my display, I currently have my Neca Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix Series 1 Sirius Black 7 Inch Figure squaring off in a duel with Severus, and it works well.

This figure also comes with Sirius’ Animagus form, an appropriately sized sculpt of the black dog that he transforms into. This dog sculpt is sturdy and does not have any points of articulation, it is simply meant to stand there (balanced well on all fours) and look menacing in the shadows. The dog is not on display in my set and is currently boxed up safely, as I much prefer to display the Sirius figure than the “Padfoot” one. 

Collectors of “Harry Potter” merchandise and figures are bound to be in search of a good Sirius Black sculpt, and to them I say that this is it! The figure is near-perfect in almost every way, and the lack of accessories can be overlooked due to the cool addition of the “Padfoot” figure that can be traded out for the Sirius one in play or on display. While the figure may not be 100% pose-able, it still looks remarkably like Gary Oldman playing Sirius Black, and is therefore the perfect addition to any “Harry Potter” collector’s set.
