Here's the thing about this book: It wasn't a bad book, I just didn't like it.
Practical Demonkeeping is Christopher Moore's debut novel, which pairs a man who has lived for a hundred years who looks to be about twenty-five, Travis O'Hearn, with Catch, a demon who enjoys eating people and causing trouble. Travis desperately wants to get rid of Catch, but it proves to be more difficult than he expected.
The story begins and continues with each new chapter being written from a new character's point of view. While the ideas in the story are definitely adult (drugs, sex, demons, etc), the book reads like a children's book, or at best, a Young Adult book. The language is never too complicated, the vocabulary is simple, and the sentences are kept short. The mix of brevity and simplicity with adult themes wasn't something I enjoyed.
However, the story was interesting, as were the characters in it. The writing wasn't bad, just not at a level that I enjoy reading at. Make your own decision about whether this is something you'd like to read. I cannot recommend it, but that isn't to say you won't like it.
