But if I start to think of my family and my helplessness I start to stray from my goal.
History – I was thirteen when I saw the first sight of war. I was an only child. I came from a decent family. We were not rich, but we never starved. My father was an amazing archer. My mother was gifted with the ability to paint, but was deaf from birth, which was the cause of my deaf. I however gained a raven for my Fifth birthday a friend of my fathers got me. He placed a magical spell that could allow me to use the raven’s ear to hear the out side world, which was amazing because I never heard another voice in my life until the raven said her name was Syren. Who had become my best friend and companion. It was a beautiful sunny day. I was playing in the fields with my family. My mother was sitting under a shady tree making another painting of us. My father was teaching me to use the bow and arrow. I had just learned to string the bow, so I wanted to test it. I notched the arrow and aimed at the target. Then I drew the string back and just let it loose as a man on a horse started to come into sight. It was to later. As if he knew it was flying towards him, he raised his shield in perfect timing with the arrow. It struck hard. Yet he paid it no mind. He continued to ride on. As if something was following him. Moment’s later three more riders followed in chase. Two broke ranks and headed towards us swords drawn, the other one continued after the man. Syren my raven shouted at me “Take your mother and run Railyn run!” My father snatched his bow up and notched two arrows into the string and let them fly. One slammed hard into one of the riders’ horse. The horse fell to the ground as it did the man jumped into the air as if almost flying. The other arrow was knocked away. Landing on his feet he précised towards us. The one on the horse conjured a fireball and threw it at my father, as it connected it exploded and engulfed him in flames. I jumped in to the air and started to fly away, when I took a last look my mother was still painting as if nothing happened I started to fly to her but to no a veil. It was to late the man on the ground thrusted his blade into her back. As I flapped my wings I watched in horror as my father lie burning alive and my mother bleeding away. Then from nowhere a fireball blazed passed my face singeing my hair. I looked down and they were still there I started to fly away. They gave chase so I headed to the woods. I thought to my self “I should be able to lose them there”. Flying fast enough to keep them in sight. Once in the woods I pulled far ahead, then headed straight up. I climbed high enough in to the clouds so they would lose me. I turned back and headed towards the field as I ascended from the sky I landed close to my father’s charred body he was dead. But my mother was still moving. I moved quickly to her side with tears in my eyes, I lifted her hand in mine. I pressed my finger to her lips as if to quit her, but she spoke these words with her last breath. I could hear though Syren’s ears. “Railyn…be brave…stand strong and never stop loving life…get strong go to the arena you will live well there…I…will…a
lways…love…you…railyn.” She then pulled the amulet from her neck and placed it in my hand. I sat there with my mother’s head in my lap. Many thoughts ran though my head. I could not think straight enough to see the riders returning from the escapade I lead them on. One of them jumped from the horse and started to ran at me. At the very moment he started to swing Syren came out of nowhere and attacked his face blinding him. I got just enough time to jump in to the air and start flying away. I flew as high as I could. As I started to level out I could see Syren. I rushed to my home and started to pack. I made up my mind I would do as my mother asked of me. But I am not alone I have Syren. So here I stand at the gates of the arena!
Others – I am deaf but I don’t like being treated differently. I am orphan. I also have a large raven that has become my ears.
