Equine radiography is a fair bit different than small animal radiography for several reasons. For one, you cant put a horse in your standard radiography suite unless it's a new born foal. Even then you wouldn't want to. So you have to have a portable x-ray machine. You have to hold the x-ray cassette by hand (sorta) too, instead of having it inside the x-ray table. Also, it's -way- harder to get the horse to stay still, and setting up your shot is so finicky. It can take as much as 10 minutes to get your distance and angle and all that fun stuff right, and then your horse moves, and you have to re-configure everything. None the less, it's pretty darn neat and fun to do.

Above Ann giving the first dose of sedative (we ended up having to dose her I think 3 or 4 times because she was just absorbing it like a sponge) - Me and Rebecca in our lovely fashionable lead aprons, setting up for one of the shots. Yes, that little yellow thing under the tripod is in fact the x-ray machine. That malfunctions on a regular basis... - Ann goofing off with my camera (it's a cute shot, I like it..) - And setting up for a completely -different- shot, one of the hardest we took. You had to have her 'knee' bent and she didn't like that at all.

Above Again, not too many opportunities to take photographs because we were so busy taking radiographs (X-rays) The last two pictures are of the second day, where we were taking a very specific set of x-rays to look at one little bone in the hoof called the Navicular bone, which actually kinda looks like a canoe *nods*

Above *grins* And on to the fun stuff. Erin was super nice and let us all ride her horse. It was great amounts of fun, and we all got very dirty (see the first picture) It's been far too long since I rode. I really need to make time to do that this coming summer, I think. And more than once.
