Secrets of the Heart; Kahlil Gibran review

Now, to be honest, I had no clue who this man was before I read this book. So I opened up a tab and searched his name on wikipedia, and apparently he's the third best-selling poet in the world. (Wow?)

Anyway, this book really isn't a book of poetry, it's more about thoughts and "meditations", as the intro puts it (so it's more like a book of drabbles).

The editor has set up "time frames" or "put the work into context", and honestly, I hated that. The editor made this man out to be like Jesus, which is a bit of a stretch. He's got some great thoughts, but I'm sure he didn't go around poofing into thin air (since at the end the people look up and he's gone).

But there were some pretty awesome passages.

Beauty is that which attracts the soul, and that which loves to give and not receive.
When you meet Beauty, you feel that the hands deep within your inner self are stretched forth to bring it into the domain of your heart.

Or,

My soul spoke to me and said, "DO not measure Time by saying, 'There was yesterday, and there shall be tomorrow.'"
And before my soul spoke to me, I imagined the Past as an epoch that never returned, and the Future as one that could never be reached.

It was pretty short, and overall I wasn't super impressed. I'm thinking of giving his poetry a go, however.
