Lightsaber Styles
This page describes the styles of combat, same thing as the force powers, if you can use them place them on your sheet with a * next to their name to display how well you can use them, five stars labels you as a master. While you can start yourself off at any level your character must have had sufficent training, if you are a Jedi Master then having several 5 star styles when you create your character is fine, but if your a padawan dont expect me to allow you being a master when you start. When you "Level" I will let you know.
Seven Conventional Styles
These are the original Styles taught to Jedi and sith from the ancient ages to the clone wars, and still formally employed today. While the Jedi council used the three new styles, the sith still employ these in training. Despite how old they are, they are still used by almost all Jedi and Sith today.
Form I: Shii-Cho "Way of the Sarlaac"
This style is called Determination form, and is the basic style of lightsaber combat teaching a basic parry and attack system employing balance and a very formal way of combat. While this form is taught to padawan as "The basics" this form can be mastered to create a simple style that can defeat almost any opponent. This style is important to master because aspects of it are used in every single lightsaber style.
Form II: Makashi "Way of the Ysalamiri"
This style was developed early and considered a considerable improvement of Shii-Cho. Often called Contention Style, Makashi utilizes wrist movements and fast action and Agility to create a very elegant and fast paced "Fencing" style of combat. Developed as a lightsaber to lightsaber combat style, it is often considered to be the best style to use against another lightsaber weilder. Despite its extreme benefits, this style is often considered useless against numerous opponents, or blaster wielding enemies.
Form III: Sorensu "Way of the Mynock"
Resilience form, created to deflect many blasts at once, sorensu is the most defensive form, utilizing short wide strokes extremely close to the body creating a "Bubble" around the jedi allowing him/ her to block any oncoming attack with minimal effort. While using Sorensu the user is almost invulnerable to attack, however this form lacks attacking strokes, and any offense from this form relies on possibly re directing the enemy attack back at them, this isnt a problem if the jedi can use more attack oriented styles, using sorensu to tire an enemy and then switching to make a final blow.
Form IV: Ataru "Way of the Hawk-Bat"
Agression form, this form utilizes extremely fast acrobatic jumps, spins and highly effective and intricate manuvers to out pace an opponent. This form is strong against single opponents in large areas (particularly Makashi users whom this form is meant to defeat) this form is dampened by large numbers of opponents and cramped spaces. Yoda was very fond of this form and it can be seen in use by him against both dooku and Palpatine.
Form V: Shien/ Djem So "Way of the Krayt Dragon"
Perserverance form, this is an alternative to Sorensu, which waits for an opportunity to strike, Shien instead creates openings to strike (instead of deflecting a blaster bolt away like sorensu, Shien will reflect it back). This form is more intended for Lightsaber to Blaster combat because most saber duelists are trained to hold up their guards against this form. This form actually has an alternative use, holding the saber backwards (as seen by the Apprentice and Ahsoka) this was good against more defensive opponents by being able to rip open their defenses, but against an offensive style backward Shien is nearly useless.
Form VI: Niman "Way of the Rancor"
Moderation form, Niman was intended to mix all the forms into perfect balance thinning out weaknesses and spreading out the strengths of all the forms. During the clone wars however all the practitioners of Niman were killed, this style has since been called "Insufficently Demanding" as well as unimaginably incompetent. Unless mastered this form is little more than a mess, and is very difficult to use, but it is important to learn this style because the use of it teaches the weakenesses and strengths of each style better than using the style itself, thus allowing the jedi to defeat any style by using the counter form to it. While considered a useless style to use, its extremely important to learn because of its practical application.
Form VII: Juyo/ Vaapad "Way of the Vornskr"
Ferocity form, Juyo (later called Vaapad) was considered an incomplete form until Mace Windu Developed it into Vaapad, this style utilizes massive amounts of strength into Lightning fast (almost superhuman) strikes creating a bubble of light around the jedi created from their lightsaber strokes using very advanced techniques and force powered moves to tear down enemy defenses, and deliver a final precise blow. Often utilizing brutal tactics and dirty fighting moves like kicking your opponent in the face, tripping them, or even striking them with the hilt of your saber, this style is indeed the hardest to master, as well asn the most difficult to fight against. Two famous practitioners were Darth Maul and Mace windu. Many naive sith and jedi try to learn this form, only to find themselves easily struck down because of its intense and demanding difficulty.
The Unconventional Styles
These arent actually "forms" as they are not taught formally but instead students are encouraged to learn them in private study.
Sokan
This form is made to utilize ones terrain to their advantage, relying on using the ground, walls, etc to attack and defend for them while applying their lightsaber skills as well to give them an advantage.
Jar'Kai
This form focuses on using two blades at once, the offhand for defense, and main hand for attack, knowing this form is vital in case you come across a duelist using two weapons.
Telekinetic Combat
This rare skill utilizes using floating weapons to strike, some jedi use this form to sit and watch while their weapon attacks their enemy from mid air, masters of this form can use several floating blades at once even summoning a small force of them to take on multiple opponents. This skill is very difficult to use and master.
Trispzest
This under used combat form practices aerial combat and fighting in midair.
Trakata
This elegant style utlizies turning the lightsaber on and off and switching hands to create a confusing effect and leave the enemy mesmerized and defeated. Masters of this style use it to juggle their sabers and turn them on and off while dodging enemy attacks waiting for their enemy to become open for a final, precise move.
New Jedi Order Styles
These are made to replace the numerous forms and create three styles that utlize all the forms at once while focusing on the various strengths and weaknesses of each form into formal basic styles. Simple and effective these forms are taught to all students of the Jedi order, and rarely employed by the sith.
Fast Style
This style focused on chaining fast paced and agile attacks creating infinite amounts of combination attacks and complex dodges. While useful against single opponents and and unstoppable to Blaster wielding opponents, this style had intense short range, as well as the attacks being easily parried and overpowered. If the barrage was kept up enough a stronger opponent could reflect the Fast Style users blade back into their body with one powerful blow. Despite this styles obvious disadvantages it is considerably useful and should not be disregarded.
Medium Style
This style focused on using fast and Hard Style equally balancing offense and defense. While this style is practical and useful in any situation (notably against lightsabers) it leaves the user open to blaster attacks, and skillful gunslingers can score a sucessful hit against a medium style user.
Hard Style
This style focuses on using sparse powerful strikes to break through defenses sacrificing speed for unmatched power. As well as using hard long ranged strikes it also utilizes close combat and hitting your enemy with brutal strikes and dirty moves. This style is great against blaster weilding opponents but can fall short against fast style users.
