Arena Name: Sorin Markov
Continuity: The Magic the Gathering multiverse
Characters (3/5):
1.
Name: Tetsuo Umezawa
Mana Orientation (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic:_The_Gathering#Colors_of_Magic): Black/White
Description: Stuck firmly halfway between ninja and Samurai, Toshiro Umezawa, or Toshi, is a freelancer who is originally from Tekuma swamp on the plane Kamigawa, which is heavily based on Japanese lore. After he inadvertently saves every living thing on his plane from total annihilation at the hands of O-Kagachi, the most powerful spirit on their plane, he settled down to a nice life married to the (former) Daimyo's daughter, Michiko, and as the new Daimyo over the land of Kamigawa. Unfortunately, his idyllic life was doomed to disaster when one of his former colleagues, a powerful Ogre wizard named Hidetsugu, accidentally opened a chaotic rift through reality underneath Toshi's bedroom. Fortunately for Hero Terminus, that rift led him straight into their Contestant's quarters. Thus how he came to be on the show.
Abilities: While Toshi does carry a shortened version of a Ninja-to (Basically a straight Katana), his most famous and most potent weapon is his Jitte, or the Japenese equivalent to a sword breaker. It consists of an elongated handle that sweeps up and extends along almost the entire length of the blade, which is dull, though the point is still wickedly sharp. The whole weapon measures in at about two feet long, and serves as the primary focus For Toshi's Kanji magic, his other mode of offense. Kanji magic is practically magic at it's finest and most basic. The practitioner writes a Kanji (Or a Japanese symbol that has equivalent meaning to a word) on an object, and the magic causes the desired effect to occur. For instance, scrawling "fire" on a tree would cause said tree to catch on fire, or inscribing "still" on a human would hold them fast. The power of the spell is determined by the medium in which the Kanji is inscribed. The greater the sacrifice, the greater the spell. For instance, one can just carve the symbol for fire onto the tree, and it will catch fire, but if one writes it on the tree in one's own blood, it's likely to catch many surrounding trees as well, while doing the same in Oni blood would likely burn down the forest. The most powerful medium for Kanji magic known at this time is Oni blood, which Toshi carries a few vials of around. Kanji magic also has the unique property to be completely incapable of harming the caster.
(For reference, in the Kamigawa continuity, the main "villain", Lord Konda, was White aligned, while the main protagonist, Toshi, was black aligned. In Magic black does not automatically equate to evil, and white does not necessarily mean good, though generally and assumption that white is good and black is evil is not too far off. However there are instances where that is not so, such as the Totalitarian archangel Radient joining the ultimate evil, Yawgmoth, in order to help "purify" the unsavory elements in the world. Yawgmoth himself was obsessed only with the perfection of life as a whole, though that ultimately made him the incarnation of all evil. Just thought I'd pop in here with my two cents.)
2.
Name: Squee, Goblin Nabob
Mana Orientation: Red
Description: Squee has often times been called the most annoying creature in the multiverse. That statement is probably true. Puzzlingly thick, Squee hails from the plane Mercadia, where he served as Nabob, or leader of the goblins there. Interestingly enough, the Goblins on Mercadia are actually the most intelligent, articulate, and manipulative species in the known multiverse, so why they elected the dazzlingly unintelligent Squee as their leader is beyond most mortals' comprehension. Whatever the case, thanks to the Planeswalker Urza and his epic war with the evil plane Phyrexia and it's demonic leader Yawgmoth, Squee is taken from his home and placed square in the thick of things on the world of Dominaria, where he serves mostly as cannon fodder and comic relief. His only notable achievements include accidentally killing the super-wizard Ertai and... well actually that's the only thing Squee ever does. Squee somewhat-mirac
ulously survives the Phyrexian apocalypse that kills sentients a hundred times stronger then him and a thousand times smarter (Including the aforementioned Urza and Yawgmoth). Unfortunately for Squee, with the untimely death of Urza and Gerrard, Captain of the magical planeswalking ship Weatherlight, Squee was left with no real way to get hom after the apocalypse, so he just kind of wandered Dominaria for a while, until he had a run in with Ib Halfheart, leader of the Dominarian Goblins the most unintelligent Goblin in the known multiverse (Squee's probably the second). The two become fast friends until Squee has a run in with his old friend Karn, a silver golem designed by Urza to be able to travel through time and who gained most of Urza's consciousness when Urza sacrificed himself to defeat Yawgmoth. At this exact moment in time, Hero Terminnus tried to abduct Karn for entry on to the show...and got Squee. Great.
Abilities: To say Squee can't fight is putting it mildly. The closest thing he has to a weapon is a little furry toy he always keeps with him that allays some minor harm from him. But lo and behold, the lowly Goblin Squee is gifted by the gods with a power all mortals desire. Unkillability. Not immortality, per say, since he does still DIE, he just always comes back. Always. ALWAYS. You can NOT get rid of him, no matter how hard you try, which when coupled with his overly friendly attitude, stupidity, and ability to hurt his friend more then he helps them, is generally a bad thing for everyone involved.
3.
Name: Yawgmoth
Color Orientation: Yawgmoth is the living incarnation of Black mana
Description: A brief bit of Magic lore. In magic there are beings known as planeswalkers, who can freely move between the planes (or world) and are generally inconceivably powerful demi-god like beings. Yawgmoth makes them look like normal humans by comparison. Ironically, Yawgmoth himself is not actually a planeswalker, though he's hardly lacking for that distinction. Yawgmoth himself appears in whichever shape he chooses, though he's not exactly capable of subtlety since he literally oozes darkness and evil. He is the dark overlord of the plane Phyrexia, where he's devoted himself to creating the ultimate race of beings by combining flesh and machine and removing any trace of morality. Imagine the KKK on terrible steroids and you'll arrive at ALMOST how Phyrexians are. Naturally all Phyrexians worship Yawgmoth, and this, combined with his own evil making him the most powerful conduit of black mana ever known, made him into the God that he more or less is. He's arguably the most powerful being in the magic multiverse, matched possibly only by Karona, the False god created centuries after Yawgmoth's death, and Urza, who eventually managed to destroy Yawgmoth after four millenia of conflict. Yawgmoth is presumed dead, as his body is lying immobile in Urborg swamp. However, for the purposes of our own amusement, we here at Hero Terminus broke the spell that was keeping him dead and brought him here for you're viewing pleasure (Though since he was already genocidal and is admittedly cross about having been dead for centuries, we don't necessarily suggest attending his appearances live)
Abilities: Yawgmoth can conjure whatever weapon he desires at whatever time he wishes. He can also summon denizens of Phyrexia in order to overwhelm his foes. And if he's feeling particularly merciful, he can simply obliterate the irritating mortals with a blast of corrupting black mana. But he rarely feels the least bit sympathetic, much less merciful, so he's developed a love for eviscerating his enemies with the razor sharp claws on either hand.
