Svartalfheim
Deep in a forest of dead and ominous trees, stretching their bare limbs to the dark midnight sky, looms the black monstrosity which is the hall of Svartalfheim, home of the Svartalver, or Black Elves. As their name implies, they dress in black, or at least dark, clothing. But not only elves find their home here, also kobolds and dwarves of the Unseelie Court live there.
One of the main rivals of the Unseelie Court, quite beside the Seelies, the Svartalfs hold much of the same social position as do the Seelie Elves. They are semi-independa
nt of the Noble Sidhe of the Court, even though they serve them to some degree. But the animosity between the two factions is much more hate-filled and deadly, and several knives have been wielded in the dark to conclude a disagreement between them. Yet the Svartalfs keep on serving the Unseelie, to some degree.
Anyone can ask for hospitality in Svartalfheim, yet few dare to do so. The food offered is as often human flesh as animal, and sometimes even tender elfin flesh is cooked in those huge iron cauldrons. The smell of blood and hatred lingers in the air, and the atmosphere is ripe with conspiracy and paranoia. Life can be very exciting in this huge mansion, but it is just as often very short.
