Knocked Up - A cute, lighthearted flick about the ever-dreaded one night stand turned 'knocked up.' It was funny and silly--a bit on the corny side-- but all in all a good time. If you like the stupid guy talk/chick talk, then you're sure to have a hoot. I give it 3/5.
Halloween - OK, everyone has been RAVING about this movie, but in general, it is exactly what it is-- a remake. Plain and simple, a few things have been altered here and were supposed to make it "cooler," but in general, it was just a waste of time-- it's pretty much the exact same movie, and the better stunts, features, effects and so forth aren't even better, so I just dont see the point. But, good news: if you liked the original, duh, you'll like this one... it's the same freakin' movie. I still say that after this, and 1000 Corpses, Zombie just should NOT be allowed to make movies. I give it a 2/5 because I just didn't see the point.
Across the Universe - Now, this is the pick of the litter right here... Well, like any movie, depending on your taste of course. If you're a Beatles fan, you will love this movie. To put it plainly, it's the general Romeo & Juliette love story, but it's set to the 60/70s anti war society of Vietnam days-- and the brilliant part is, it's a MUSICAL with an all-Beatles soundtrack... Nifty, huh? Better yet, all the characters are named after Beatles songs. Even more nifty. It's a timeless story that's hard to go wrong with, with awesomely enchanting visual effect and a classic sountrack-- 5/5.
Saw 4 -- All I gotta say is CAN WE END THIS ALREADY?? The first one was awesome, but one is more than enough. It gets old and repetative real quick.
Quikie Books:
Dracula - Duh, It's a classic, it's the Godfather of all vampire literature, and a beautiful love story. Haven't read it yet? You need to crawl out from under that rock and read it, already! 5/5
Blood Countess - This is the fictional story inspired by the real life story of the countess Bathory Aria, more commonly known to have given birth to the "Bloody Mary" legends. Its a haunting and intriguing story, a bit grusome, but very lovely in my opinion, and the fact that the author did a good bit of heavy research on the countess for this book, a lot of it is actually based on realy historical records, so it can be very interesting and educational as well... in a twisted sort of way. 4/5
Alice in Wonderland (aka. Through the Looking Glass)- All right, I know what you're thinking. What is Alice in wonderland doing in the Gothic Nightmare special? WELL, then you OBVIOUSLY havent read the book! Really, if you have, you'd see that this is seriously not suited for kids; it's dark, demented, disturbed, has illicit and blatant use of all kinds of drugs with horrible trip sequences that are disorienting to read (and Carol was certain to write it in a super disorienting way to get the full affect) and is just downright... creepy. And let's not even talk about the highly disturbing Jabberwocky. As a general story, I'd have to give it a 1/5, because frankly, Carol was just too drugged up to know how to write a proper story. BUT, as a subculture pop icon, or horror story, there is nothing that compares. 5/5.
