Supernatural is without a shadow of a doubt my favourite television programme. Now, I don't watch much television, but I never miss Supernatural. It has absolutely everything within it. Action, humour, jump-out-of-your-seat moments, drama, and my favourite ingredient: the emotion between the two main characters. It is an American programme, and some viewers may have to wait a while before the episodes are aired in their country, but I can assure you, it is worth the wait.
Sam and Dean Winchester (portrayed by Jared Padelecki and Jensen Ackles) are two brothers who hunt supernatural beings in the modern day. From ghosts to werewolves, and vampires to killer scarecrows, the Winchester family can handle anything. Until their mother is killed by a demon when they are just small children, that is. Many years later, their father, John Winchester goes off in search of the very same demon who took his wife. He does not return, and Sam and Dean go off to search for him. Along the way, they encounter supernatural beings and take care of each one in each episode. The episodes have different guest stars, all of them being not so popular actors or actresses, but more than talented ones who are a gem to watch. But as the three seasons progress, each season containing twenty one episodes, more problems find their way to Sam and Dean.
Supernatural may contain ghosts and vampires and other frightening monsters, but it is not necessarily an overly frightening programme. One minute the viewer will be in shock, the next they will be laughing themselves silly at Dean's one liners, and then the next they will be crying at the tender family moments between the two brothers.
Each episode runs for forty five minutes, or an hour depending on adverts, and each one has a different director. This is interesting because there will be a range of differences in each episode, so there is always something to look out for.
One of the main things which Supernatural is recognised for is it's soundtrack. Blue Oyster Cult, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, and many other classic rock bands play their part in Supernatural on the tape player in Dean's more than beautiful black Cheverolet Impala, also known by its dubbed name, 'Metallicar'.
Supernatural season one, two, and three are all available to buy, and season four begins in September 2008.
