Telmar, or what's left of it, was once a magnifficent central port of trade between Arda and Telpurion. Telmar fell to Ullari's army after a seige that lasted well over a year. In that time much of the city was ruined, and most of the inhabitants killed or driven off. Telmar is a city of stone, with stone harbours housing Ullari's navy, and a great central fortress that is now all but destroyed. The streets of Telmar are filled with the bustle of Ullari's army, many of whome take up residence in the burned out huskes os former homes and storhouses. Telmar is the sister city to Eldamar, both once rulled by a single kingdom though they be a great distance from each other. The Empire that rulled Telmar is now all but destroyed, with most of it's soldiers either dead of serving Ullari's army.
Ullari passed through the ruined city, over the great bridge an out into the field where preperations where already being made. All of the captains where there...and Gurthar he was sure would be there soon. Only the captains had been invited....Ull
ari didn't care for a crowd.
Rayne walked slowly to the field, her hair half pulled up, half blowing about her shoulders, her skirts blowing in the winds left over from the previous day's storm. She was unsure of exactly where to go. Standing a little distance from the group she caught Ullari's eye and smiled at him, hoping he would let her know what to do.
Ullari caught his breath when he saw her, smiling back at her....completely at a loss for words hope the armour doesn't concern her to much he thought to himself. He had chosen white wriste guards though.
Rayne smiled at his reaction. She looked at him, talking him in, she noticed the armor, but didn't think much of it, "What now?" she mouthed silently.
Gurthar rode up on a black horse, though he himself was dressed in deep reds...somthing that made him almost more terrifying than normal....though this was not his intention. He had over this black armour though over that a white robe. dismounting with his sword at his side, and guantlets very visable he approached the party.
Rayne looked up, rather startled by Gurthar's entrance, "What is going on?" she asked Ullari, approaching him.
"What do you mean?" Ullari asked innocently, eyeing Gurthar "You look like a warlord returned from Campaigne" he said smartly. Gurthar smiled "Sorry my lord...best i could do in two hours notice"
"I am referring to this." Rayne said quietly, placing a white hand gently on Ullari's arm guard, "I am not blind Ullari, why is everyone in full armor?"
"Ahh Rayne must you be so serious all the time? Lighten up already it's just for decoration" Gurthar said with a laugh...he was very good at diversions "Now...how are we going to go about doing this?" he asked..completely dumbfounded.
Rayne looked him in the eye, "I know the difference between ceremonial armor, and battle armor." Ullari's was ceremonial, but Gurthar's was not, and neither was that of most of the captains, but she left it at that. "Who is going to preform the ceremony?" Rayne asked, smiling a little again.
"Uh..yeah...who is going to preform the ceremony?" Gurthar asked sheepishly. Ullari raised an eyebrow at him "So is that where all the hard alchohol dissapeared to?" he asked teasingly. Gurthar took a step back "W-w-what?!?! Hey!!!...no one told me i was doing the ceremony!"
Rayne laughed, "Oh, why not Gurthar?" she asked, not intending to look nearly as sweet as she did in her white dress.
Gurthar flushed a deep crimson...his eyes turning white as he bowed his head to hide his face "Uh..well since it would seem ya'll have me pinned then there's nothing more to it" he sighed. Ullari smiled at Rayne how is it that she so easily can convince the stubborn fellow....his mind is usually so hard to change he thought with a laugh.
Rayne smiled at both Gurthar and Ullari, her fiery eyes dancing, "When are we getting started?" she asked.
Gurthar frowned....he hated speaking in front of crowds...and in front of nearly one hundred captains oh boy he thought getting everyone to be seatted and away from the food an drink which was supposed to be for after.
"You will do just fine." Rayne assured him with a smile, "Shall we?" Rayne asked, turning to Ullari.
"Yes" Ullari said taking Rayne's hand in his and following behind Gurthar...who now looked unnervingly more alert than usual. Gurthar preformed the ceremony...clearly agitated about somthing other than that, whaching them echange vows...clearly glad that it was over. "I am very happy for you Rayne" he said, whaching as Ullari was swept atop and sent crowd surffing.
Rayne smiled and laughed as Ullari was swept away, "What is worrying you Gurthar?" she asked, still watching Ullari.
"I intercepted a dispatch...some of Ullari's old enemies...i doubt it'd be Lomien..not this soon. Anyways....they planned to crash the wedding, so he had all the captains dress in full armour" he said softly to her "I am very happy for you Rayne...at last you are safe...and it would seem you have made him quite happy" Gurthar said teasingly...even he was in a very rare mood "Don't trouble yourself..this is your day com'on lets enjoy it" he said with a laugh.
Rayne turned to look at him, her eyes widened a little, "They... That means they may still come."
"Yes but you will leave that to me m'lady" Gurthar said with a bow..giving her a slight push into the dancing circle.
Rayne laughed, even this news could not damper her mood too much today, she pulled Gurthar into the circle with her then found Ullari's hand.
Gurthar's eyes widened...he hated dancing...much more he hated crowds an partys when he knew he had work to do..slipping anothers hand into her's he slipt out of the crowd....he had work to do...somthing was drawing near, already two of the outward scouts where missing. Ullari took ahold of both Rayne's hands "You look happy...where is Gurthar...i thought he was with you?" Ullari kicked himself...the crusnik was known for sneeking off poor guy does he ever have any fun at all? he wondered to himself as he looked around for him.
Rayne smiled broadly up at Ullari, then looked about her, "He was just with me, I do not know where he went. He told me about our possible guests," she said, "perhaps they are on their way."
"Well i see he came prepared....there is what he had whorn over whatever he is wearing now" Ullari said walking over to a pile of very neatly folded clothes "What a tidy cat...now where is the devil...he should at least relax!" Ullari said slightly exasperated.
Guthar was relaxed..he was in his realm...the realm of the hunter...he had found the detachment he had sent out...all dead...all fifty....slain horribly. He blended with the shadows, his adrenaline rushing...he was enjoying this.
"Who do you suppose they are?" Rayne asked him.
"Not they...likely not they...more like it...and no i don't know what it is" Ullari said absentmindedly "But come now love...stop worrying" he said setting his hands on her waist.
Rayne looked quizzically up at him, but moved a little closer to Ullari and rested her head on his shoulder, sighing happily, before asking him, "What do you mean by 'it'?"
Gurthar shot off the tree, whaching it as it disintegrated. He landed infront of the creature....an immortal Deamon prince and his two hundred deamon warriors behind him "Well well...it would appear that we have a problem...i'll be going now" Gurthar said wide eyed, barely outrunning the blasts of the Deamons.
Ullari heard and saw a tree go up in smoke in the valley below "We may find out soon enough" he said with a growl.
Rayne spun around to see what the noise was, her hair whipping her face as she turned. Her eyes widened and she squeezed Ullari's hand, watching as the smoke rose into the sky, "What do you think it is?" she whispered, leaning against him.
Ullari was glad he had five hundred soldiers there, though initially to keep unwanted guests out....they would do...hopefully. Ullari turned to Rayne "It would seem that someone has found a way to free a deamon prince from the limitations of his powers....and Gurthar really pissed it off" he added seeing another huge explosion of fire an ice.
Rayne's eyes widened in worry, "Should we send a messenger back to camp for more soldiers?" she asked, looking up at Ullari. She looked around, the festivities had stopped, and all the captains were looking at the treeline, each other, and Ullari, their hands on their weapons.
"More are already on their way" Ullari replyed perfect day for a Deamonic incursion....Gurthar..get back here!!.
Gurthar, had felled twenty of the Deamon warriors, but he was covered in a score of wounds and still a long way from the tree line an safty. Gurthar staggered from the trees and through the ranks of linesmen, propping himself up against one of the table "ooh food" he said chomping down on whatever he had the strengh to lift.
"Gurthar, are you alright?" Rayne asked, striding quickly over to him. She turned to Ullari, "They're probably right behind him." she said, her eyes wide.
Ullari smiled "This could get fun...ya out Gurthar or ya still got one more round?" He asked shedding his robe. Gurthar eyed him challengingly then let his head sink "I think i will sit this one out...careful with that Deamon prince....he's a handful...whatever spell they used though doesn't work....either that or i broke the seal...in both cases the Deamon will expend himself on that line...leaving you to deal with the one hundred little bighters. Ullari frowned "I hate deamon warriors...ugh!..this is gonna be painful"
Rayne looked from Ullari to Gurthar, "Gurthar," she said, moving closer to him, "I need you to unblock my abilities, I need the use of my powers." she said urgently.
Gurthar laughed...which made his side spurt blood all over the place, and him recoil in pain "It's a fire prince Rayne....you'd only fead it by useing your abilities" Gurthar said holding his side in pain, trying to heal it.
"Then I shall fight his underlings." Rayne growled, "Gurthar, if you are able, I need you to do this for me. I will not sit by during a battle."
Gurthar was growing rather impatient "I'm sorry Rayne but i'm under orders to keep you out of it" he said manipulating her body into a sitting position before tieing her securly to a bench "I'm not leaving i'm on triage duty" he said as the wounded flooded in, reinforcments came from Ullari's army, and Human warriors...who's leader had summoned the now dead Deamon prince, where clashing with the Dark Army. Ullari had not been seen for alittle over an hour.
Rayne struggled against her bonds, wishing she could just burn them away like she would normally have, "Damn you, Gurthar." she growled, "Where is Ullari? Let me go!"
Gurthar was busily healing those most mortally injured...stabalising them before they where taken to the medicae tents "I don't know!" he shouted back at her "Sit down and shut up!" he said worridly looking around....he hadn't seen Ullari since he ran off to do battle with the prince. Four men bearin a streacher walked in "Gurthar, the human's are being routed..the deamons are dead....Ullari..well..here he is..he's alive...." they said setting him down. They where blocking Rayne's veiw the whole time so she wouldn't be able to see him. Ullari's entire left shoulder and upper body where torn broken an rent, and he was bleeding everywhere.
Hearing that the soldier on the stretcher was Ullari, Rayne struggled harder, working at the rope Gurthar had tied her with. She finally got the knot undone, and went over to where the men stood, "Oh gods..." she breathed, kneeling beside the stretcher.
Ullari stirred weakly, a huge gash from his ear down his neck had been patched...Gurthar was healing as best he could. Looking up at her "Rayne?" he mumbled. The guards moved to throw her out but Gurthar silenced them "Enough noise!" he begged as he concentrated on Ullari's wounds.
Rayne pulled her arm from the hand of the soldier who was about to pull her away, "I am here love." she said quietly, taking Ullari's hand.
Ullari winced alittle as Gurthar finished repairing the internal damage "Well at least half of you doesn't look like a flat bread or somtin...now let's have a look at that neck wound of yours...and divert the rest of these to the medic wards...they'll last at least that long most if not all longer..i am not chief medic!" he growled..Gurthar hated healing duties...mostly the smells "m'lady could you please try not to touch...i'm sorry i just don't want to open anything up" he said softly.
Ullari caressed her face "I'm fine...or soon will be" he said gently to Rayne.
Rayne nodded, dropping her hands into her lap. She forced herself to calm down, she had after all, seen Ullari like this before, on more than one occasion...It was Ullari, he would always pull through. She sat quietly by Ullari's side and watched as Gurthar worked.
"Oh and to put a smile on that pretty face of your...here's the antidote for that poison that's in you" Gurthar said "Alright i think you are all set my lord...just do me a favore....take it easy" he finished with an exasperated sigh....he was tired, hungry...and very very cranky.
Rayne smiled, "Thank you Gurthar. How are you feeling love?" she asked, turning to Ullari.
"Alittle sore....haven't had that much work done on me...i don't think ever...but i got the prince to expend himself...Gurthar was right...he had broken the seel..what a releif. The Human warriers have that entire vast forest under their command....that will be a fun campaigne to do....but today i want to forget about all of it...if just for a day" He said wrapping his arms around her neck an kissing her.
Rayne wrapped her arms around him and returned his kiss, "As do I, my love." she sighed happily, laying her head on his shoulder.
Ullari walked with her, he felt his injuries though...and they wore on him. It hurt to breath, and even to walk was slightly bothersome...though he walked an breathed as if none of this was the case, his features where more solemn, and he had a trio of deep cuts starting from above his eyebrow an ending at his chin....these he wanted to keep, he always had a memory from each time he was nearly killed...they where very few, this being one of them.
Rayne walked beside him, her arm in his, "You are going to keep those?" Rayne murmured, it wasn't so much a question as an observation, Rayne knew Ullari's customs better than anyone, save for Gurthar.
"Yes...Gurthar couldn't heal them without damageing my eyes or my senses because they where so deep" he said softly. Ullari realised that his armour had been stripped from him an that all he had was a sword at the side opposite Rayne and yet it doesn't bother me he thought happily.
Rayne looked up at him, "What is it that you are thinking about Ullari?" she asked him, seeing that there was something on his mind beneath his ever-present mask.
"Hmmm...alot" He said, in truth there was alot on his mind...his new bride, the events of that day, the amount of pain he was in, the upcoming campaingns....to say that alot was on his mind would be acurate enough.
Rayne smiled at him, "Like what?" she asked.
A set of small kids where playing ball, Ullari was preoccupied with how to answer her question to see a stray ball come flying into his side....his bad and very much already in pain side. The shock caused him to swallow up the vomit the came to his mouth as his form went rigid for a moment before he threw the ball back to them "Alot is on my mind Rayne...this war, today....that is all i can think of at the moment" he felt sick from swallowing the vomit...though he knew it was essential to keep from being fretted over....which he hated.
Rayne looked at him worriedly, seeing the pain on his face, but she forced herself to remain silent, knowing that he hated being fretted over. She smiled a little, though the worry showed through, and kept walking.
Ullari walked with her back to Ullari's tent
Rayne walked with Ullari, her arm in his, to Ullari's tent.
