Telpurion Archive #6
Lomien walked up to the haunted gates, by now it was evening
The custodes will soon be out he thought to himself. The entire grounds had a haunted dark feel to it, and though he did not show it Lomien always got the jitters when walking onto the ancient palace grounds.
Ninquelote walked behind Lomien, looking about her, the palace felt haunted, she could sense the presence of many restless spirits, more here than throughout the rest of the city.
"Let me know when we get to the places you don't remember. You will even get to talk to the entire council Nin, they still rule this city..." he said walking past the destroyed gates and remnants of the battle.
"I feel their presence, how it that possible? They were all killed." She asked him as they walked through the gates.
"Killed? No, no Nin they where not killed for Such is Gurthangs' curse, they are all alive. They have repented of what they have done wrong, so the govern the best that they can in what is left of a crumbling realm...at least those who managed...some are now like vampire wraiths...othe
rs you can talk with, all are confined here" he said to here walking into the once grand entry hall. The once well lit and beautiful hall was now full of shadow. Lomien catching a glimpse of movement, saw a young boy and girl undoubtedly soon to be up to no good. Lomien walked briskly over to them, before he could a baleful scream erupted, Lomien whached in horror as two wraiths devoured the two of them.
Nin sensed the wraiths and their intentions before anything happened, but she had no chance to do anything. She cried out as the two children were torn apart. She sank to her knees as she both felt and heard the pain of their spirits being consumed along with their physical bodies. She had been caught completely off guard, and so had no chance to withdraw into the safety of her own being, her own sensations were drowned in the pain of those other two spirits. She buried her face in her hands and began to weep.
"Those aren't wraiths" Lomien said stone faced as he caught a glimpse of the leering face behind one of the tattered rags "Ghouls... his voice trailed off. Lomien looking down the three halways say at least a hundred such fiends start to walk slowly down. "Nin, come here love" he said lifting her up, whaching warily as the Ghouls approached. Lomien knew the wraiths would not help.
Nin shuddered against him, still overwhelmed.
Lomien set Nin down at his feet. One of the Ghouls came up to her, sniffing her smelling her essence and her abilities before it lept at her. A bright flash followed by a shriek as the Ghoul disinegrated into ash. The rest of them snarling an snapping their teeth, circling Lomien as their only fear was fire.
Nin struggled to sit up, her eyes glowed white and she crushed the spirit, the very being, of one of the Ghouls. She then collapsed, not unconscious, but too weak to move.
Lomien, quietly sat down, making sure Nin was laying down he began a low chant "Ala nes bal un nethe leer ne nun natha lachria bree nocle ne cr na" as he said this, his hands outstreched fire enveloped the room surrounding he and Nin. Lomiens eyes glowed an eerie orange, as the shrieks of the incinerated Ghouls filled the room.
Nin shuddered, hearing the shrieks, but could do nothing.
Lomiens eyes cooled and with it the intense heat, leaving a near icy cool in it's wake. The halls where now silent. "Nin...are you ok?" he said lifting her up to him. Sensing her weeked state he began probing her with his own mind it's ok Nin, i'm here it's safe he said reassuringly.
I'm alright, she thought, I'm just weak.
"You have alot of pent up energy, here" he said tracing his fingers around her, forcing the energy to be released "now please don't go all psycho like you did the last time i tried this" he said smuggly.
Nin stirred as he released the energy, but was too weak to do anything else.
Lomiens' concern was cut short by a low rumbling growl, the hall in front of him glowed a dull orange "No...it can't be!" he gasped that fire demon was supposed to be caged so that none could ever even get close to him he thought, all of his hair sood on end even on his head....a comical sight.
"Lomien," Nin whispered, slowly recovering, "get out of here, just run."
"Aww what's the fun in that though?" he asked her. Any further words where drowned out as the beast loomed in the hall entrance. Lomien calmly turned to face it. The fire Deamon stood at least fifteen feet tall, a blazing sword in its' right hand. Lomien stepped in front of Nin casting aside Gurthang, he awaited the beasts first move.
Nin watched from where she sat on the ground propped up on one arm. She was recovering more quickly now, bout she was still too weak to be of any use.
The beast sent a wall of fire at Lomien, and with a roar raised its' sword an charged him. Lomien eyed the fire wall absorbing its' baleful energies, determined to protect Nin. Hurling a bolt of lightning at the beast Lomien shouted his own challenge, creating a sword out of energy to meat the beasts' own weapon.
Nin watched, her fist clenched, and worried for Lomien.
Lomien dueled, making the fight look like a well coreographed dance when in reality he was fighting for his life, searching for an opening in the beasts defences. The Deamon swatting aside Lomien's energy blade picked him up bodily "You are strong Elf, but not strong enough to defeat me, and soon in your dying breath you will whach the painful demise of your female friend" the Deamons' voice echoed darkly throughout the halls.
Nin stiffened, she was almost entirely recovered from her shock now. She stood, and though she was still a little weak from her earlier attack on the Ghoul, her fear for Lomien gave her new strength as she made a sudden attack on the creature's spirit. She knew that she could not overcome it, but she knew that the two of them together had a better chance.
The beast staggered from the unexpected attack. A sly grin came from Lomien "Ya know, i never did like being held by a Demon" he said unleashing everything he had on the beast. Dropping him in a crumpled heap the huge Demon staggered back, now missing its' sword arm which had been turned to ash by Lomiens' attack. Lomien, limping, and struggling to stand gave one final titanic burst at the beasts heart, tearing it to shreds before sinking to the ground "You always did have that habbit of coming in at the right time Nin" he said to himself.
Nin stood there, her eyes glowing silver, wrestling with the beast's spirit, it couldn't attack her spirit, but it could resist. But when Lomien released his final attack, its resistance gave out and it's spirit was crushed. Nin collapsed again, weakened by the effort, but not completely drained this time. She stood and walked over to Lomien, though she was rather shaky.
"Ugh i smell like burnt flesh....now to find the burn or burns" he muttered quietly to himself seeing his clothes singed an burnt in places where the beast had a hold of him. He moved around, pained as he was, determined to find where the Demon had got him.
Nin went to him, "It looks like you're fine love, just minor burns as far as I can see. Where does it hurt most?" Her voice was weak, and a little horse from the strain of fighting with such a creature.
"What a nasty smell" he said with a grimace. If it was one thing that made Lomiens' stomach turn it was the smell of burnt flesh. He rose slowly, taking her into his arms "Easy Nin, you've put alot of strain on your body" he said to her. Blood poured down from a cut on his head from falling, the blood ran dark red an thick, mixed with sweat an dirt.
Nin's knees gave out from under her as he took her into his arms. "Those poor children." She shuddered, the pain and terror still echoing in her mind.
Lomien looked down at her, swiping her legs out from under her to carry her. "Why did it affect you so Nin?" he asked her heading down the path way to the council chamber "Let me know when we get to a place you don't remember" he said softly to her.
Nin wrapped her arms around his neck, "I reached out to them, it was automatic, and when they were attacked, it was almost like their screams, their pain, it was inside my head." She shuddered again, then looked up around her, "I remember running down this hall with you, towards the council chamber...There, up ahead where that corridor meets the hall, I remember reaching that point, but no more.
"You still have much to learn then dear one if that still happens to you" he chided her lightly. "This is where Gurthar attacked you, you where running and didn't see his attack" he said carrying her to the point "What else do you want to know?"
Nin looked up at him, "I want to know what happened." She hesitated, "Show me?"
"What happend with what my love? His attack? he swung a club at your head" he said tossling her hair.
She looked him in the eye, she knew he probably wouldn't want to but she wanted to know, "Lomien, I have gone so long not knowing what happened that day, I want to know. Please, show me, show me all that you remember."
"Very well, and also my love i will show you everything about me as seen through my eyes. Everything before the war, before you knew me all the way up to this present day" he said sitting down with her in his arms. Lomiens' eyes glowed white errecting a powerful energy shield as he layed his hand on her forehead, pouring into her mind all his memories, careful to also sift them out so as not to destroy her with so much information.
Nin kept her arms around his neck as he sat down, she removed the barriers that she kept about her mind and watched all that he showed her. Most of what she saw was new to her, and much of that came as a complete surprise. She thought it amazing that though she knew so much about Lomien, there could still be so much that she had no idea about.
Deciding not to show her memories of his blood soked past, Lomien fasforwarded to the start of the war and the battles in the palace. Lomien held her tight, he loved her but he was very hesitant to show her memories of the brutal an haunted past...especially his traumatic first thousand years alive.
Nin took in all that he showed her, holding him tighter at times. She knew that Lomien had lived a difficult life, but she had never realized just how bad it had been at times.
Lomien pained at what he was showing her, began to slowly erase her mind. But even this he struggled, stalling as he was torn about what to do, the memories continued to flow into her mind.
Nin looked up at him, not focusing all her attention on his memories for the first time since he had begun, "Don't erase it, if you do not mind, I want to know." She gazed into his eyes, tears beginning to show, "I want to know what makes you who you are...I want to know..." She whispered.
Bending down subconciously, Lomien kissed her letting the memory flow freely. A silent tear escaped him, reliving his past through her eyes now as she was made priviy to everything about him.
Nin kissed him back, tears sliding down her face. Nin was sensitive, she did not like seeing others in pain, but she wanted to know what had happened to him.
Releasing her as he revealed the last of his past and present to her, he stood stone faced, the energy shield colapsing. Quietly Lomien arose venturing in the direction of the council chamber, ashamed of his past, much less letting Nin into it all an making her privy to the most tortured parts maybe i will erase them...maybe, though i will only do that if it starts troubling her to much he thought to himself, his eyes returned to normal color.
Nin wrapped her arms around her, feeling his sudden absence acutely. She drew in a shaky breath, rose, and followed him. "Lomien," She said, placing her hand on his arm to stop him a moment.
Stopping, surprised out of his reminiscing "What is it love?" he asked her. Lomien was pained to see her so weakened, to him it was nothing however his mind an soul had long become dead to such things. Lomien had long been in the habit of not paying any attention to the state of people, seeing her like this saddened him though he would not even now show it.
"I know that it pains you to share this with me, and I'm sorry, I just wanted to know..." Another tear rolled down her cheek as she reached up softly and kissed his lips.
Lomien continued walking down the to the huge council chamber, the doors of which where gone "This is the council chamber" he said gesturing to the regal robed skeletons sitting on their seats, some of the seats where empty though. A huge gaping hole stood at the back of the chamber, large numbers of armoured skeletons lay strewn about the entrance to the hole.
Nin hung her head when Lomien simply turned from her, she followed him into the room and looked about her. "Lomien, let's go back, please. I know I said I wanted to see this, but now that I'm here....Please..." She whispered.
"Very well, where do you wish to go next?" he was not sure anymore how to go about. He wanted to spend as much quality time with her as he could as he had an uneasy feeling that he would not return from the dark woods, and this weighed on his mind. Thinking her to be mad at him seeing her head slumped made him all the more withdrawn.
"Can we just go back to the inn? I don't know if I can do this, I don't know if I can bear to see much more of the destruction of everything I once knew." Nin felt guilty for asking Lomien to bring her here and then being too weak to stay.
"I warned you about what it would look like love" he said coming up to her putting a reassuring hand on her shoulder "It's ok to be weak Nin" he said softly stroking the side of her face.
Nin looked up at him sadly, then threw her arms around him, "Oh Lomien..." she murmured, her tears flowing freely now.
"What is it Nin?" he asked embracing her, wincing slightly as she tore his shirt from his burnt skin on his arm. It didn't matter to him though "Why are you so scared?" he asked pulling her tighter.
"Im sorry," Nin said, burring her face in his chest, "I don't know what's come over me...It's almost like I can feel the pain, the sorrow, the misery in this place, this whole city is full of it. I can't hide from it, I can't shield myself from it like I usually can."
Lomien saddened by her tilted her head up, kissing her full on the lips "Then i will make it go away for you my love, would you like me to do that?" he asked her, not wanting her to suffer anymore than what she had already. He felt warm blood run down his chest inside his shirt how bad did that monster burn me anyways? he thought to him self.
"Save your strength love," Nin smiled up weakly at him, "I will be alright. We should get your wounds cleaned."
Lomien reached into her mind, manipulating her ability so that she could no longer hear and feel the suffering around her, everything else still worked fine. "Nin..oh Nin, you can barely walk" he said softly.
She smiled a little at him, "I had hoped you wouldn't notice that." she said.
Picking her up again he eyed her with concern "You've lost weight again" he sighed leaping through the hole an into the back courtyard. Lomien had tucked her head into his chest out of habit. He froze gazing out at the courtyard, at all the dead, all of whom had the same sword wound, from the same sword...Gurthang, weilded by him in his escape during the fall.
Nin smiled and closed her eyes as he held her head against him. When he stopped short she looked up at him, then followed his gaze. A small breath escaped her as she saw the ancient bodies.
"You shouldn't see this" he said turning her head away "I had no idea that the carnage was this great...was the assault really that desperate to...get her?" he murmured to himself, his voice garbled an distorted by choked back tears an awe.
"You forgot this." Nin said softly allowing him to turn her head away, she had not seen this among his memories, "Who were they?"
"All of them are Dark Army, Ullari sent them to take you, their commander is not here...there is nothing left of him or the first hundred or so." he whispered to her "All of them fell by Gurthangs' battle induced frenzy, they have lain here ever since, the wraith council sees' to it that nothing of this kind is disturbed"
Ninquelote was awed that Ullari had been so determined to get her. "Why...why would Ullari want me that badly?" She whispered.
"A wicked obsession...and your ability is unique in such a way that he planned to use it in a ritual to summon more than one of the demons that we encountered in the hall way" he said holding her tight "He wanted to use you, to expend all your energy...to create a sword like Gurthang" he said sorrowfully.
Nin shuddered, clinging tight to Lomien, "What happened to him? What happened to our brother Lomien?" She asked, tears rising once again at the memories.
"Ullari? He became consumed, somthing he did while in the dark wood...he took the path opposite mine there an came out changed..." he said to her "He won't ever touch you again Nin, hopefully when i venture into the wood i may be able to finally see what it was that changed him" he whispered to her, leaving the palace grounds behind them.
"Don't go, don't go back there Lomien..." She hesitated, "I don't want to loose you too."
Lomien bent down kissing her full an long on the lips "Very well then Love, i won't" he said softly to her. He knew though that Seriph would not be returning for a few months, so that they would have to travel through the wood..he would take the path he had taken..hoping it was not as dark as Ullari's.
Nin returned his kiss, holding him tight. "Thank you." She whispered.
"Mmm, you're welcome" he smiled at her "Well then, shall we sleep in here? or shall we venture back to the inn? its' getting dark out an you don't want to be around when that happens" he said looking around playfully pretending to be nervous.
Nin smiled back at him, "I would like to go back to the inn." She said softly.
"Very well then" he said walking with her in his arms back to
Ecthelion.
