Testing Sean
Worlds Between
Sean and
Tera entered a small barren room. The floor, walls and ceiling were all made of that silvery metal. A pile of dirt is in one corner of the room, a jar of water in another, and a few candles in the third. In the center of the room there are two metal chairs and a small table between them.
"Please take a seat," Tera said, gesturing to the chair furthest from the exit. The door slid shut behind them. "Most people develop an ability that has an elemental affinity. I am simply going to ask you to perform a few tasks to see which affinity you have."
Sean nodded slowly, taking the seat he seemed to lose the ability to speak, he looked around the room nervously as he tried to think what these tasks could be.
Tera smiled kindly. She was not as accute as Selene in reading people, but she was still very empathetic. "Don't worry, this will be fun," she assured him. After a thoughtful pause, she opened a drawer from the desk and extracted a single, blank white paper. "Without touching this paper, or blowing on it, I would like you to move it. Try to feel the air around yourself. Feel the way it flows. Guide it towards and under the paper, if you can. If you can't, that is fine. We will simply try something else."
Sean smiled nervously back, before straightening up. He was nervous, and the butterflies in his stomach refused to abate. He stared at the paper, flexing the muscles in his head to try and achieve something. He grew frustrated very quickly, angry with himself as he thought of everyone else, what if he held everyone back? What if he failed and was sent home whilst the others went off to different dimensions, fighting god knows what whilst he studied and slept and performed every other menial task he could think of. After a few moments of all this, he mentally shook himself in an attempt to get his act together, returning to the paper.
