THE SIDHE

The host is riding from Knocknarea
And over the grave of Clooth-na-Bare;
Caoile tossing his burning hair,
And Niamh calling Away, come away:

Empty your heart of its mortal dream.
The winds awaken, the leaves whirl round,
Our cheeks are pale, our hair is unbound,
Our breasts are heaving, our eyes are agleam,

Our arms are waving, our lips are apart;
And if any gaze on our rushing band,
We come between him and the deed of his hand,
We come between him and the hope of his heart.

The host is rushing 'twixt night and day,
And where is hope or deed as fair?
Caoilte tossing his burning hair,
And Niamh calling Away, come away.

William Butler Yeats - The Hosting of the Sidhe

The Daoine Sidhe, or the Sidhe for short, are the nobility among the fairies. They are the rulers of Faƫrie, and consider themselves to be the True Fairies. This is mostly because they are more in touch with the natural power of the land, and unlike the "Common" fey they almost never dwell in the mortal lands. Whenever I reffer to the Nobles, I'm reffering to the Sidhe.

Physically they are usually humanish in shape, but other than a general tendency towards four limbs, a torso and a head they can very wildly in appearance. Skin color runs the gamut from green to jet black, and some are even covered in tree bark. Horns and strange hair is not uncommon, and their supernatural heritage tend to show in their appearance too.

Mentally they are as different as they look, but all of them are passionate about something. It is a rare Sidhe who dosn't feel superior to mortals, an attitude that is even reflected in their language. Their name for themselves, "The Fae", literally means "The Living". They feel that since mortals have such short lifespans they're practically dead already. Death hovers over each and every one of them all the time, they're so frail and sickly and, well, mortal. In the eyes of the Sidhe, the mortals aren't REALLY alive. Only the Fey are. This strongly colours their dealings with mortals.
