The God of Small Things review

Though the book itself was rather wordy, and incredibly confusing until about the middle when the author begin tying ends together, it was definitely worth the work of the read. A beautifully sad-written novel about a set of "two-egg" twins (fraternal) growing up in India, with several touchy and somewhat morbid topics addressed.

The story is a compelling read, though is somewhat difficult to understand throughout the first portion of the book - both because of it's strange style (there are a lot of strange references to other parts of the story - you must read carefully, and also there are 'misspelled' words because it's written in some cases from a child's point of view), and also because it moves sequences in history (from when the twins were very young, to as they were growing up, to the present, etc.) and it is sometimes difficult to discern what is going on. There are many lively characters in the story, who are also brought up often but also not very well explained in detail until halfway through.

Overall the book was worth the read. Heart-wrenching in places, but otherwise beautiful.
