The Hunger Games Trilogy review
Don't waste your effing time.
I could end the review there, but I really feel like these books need a good bitching out.
There will be no spoilers. If you want to know specifics, message me.
First off, I like audiobooks. A good narrator can really put you in the thick of it with the characters and they're a real life saver if you're like me and don't often have time in the week to just sit down and crack open a book. You can turn it on and get in the tub, do dishes or just listen while you commute to work. Audiobooks are great for anyone who's busy... or blind.
Secondly, the first book really gets you invested. I found Susanne Collin's method of writing quite a bit annoying, but I didn't mind so much considering Katniss was a really interesting character. So the first book really gets you involved with everything going on. If you like strong female roles, and I do, I thought the series was going to be really great. The first book really did hit the nail on the head for it's reading audience
Thirdly, I found myself a little tired by the middle of book two. I think that was mostly the writing style, but I found Carolyn McCormick's voice very... droll. That could have been part of my disinterest. Eleven hours of listening to a voice you're not captivated by can probably put a damper on the story. Frank Muller she is not. (r.i.p. Frank). But still, I found the story still interesting, but it began to get a little... predictable. Constantly getting jerked around by whether not which boy she's going to fall for, was annoying. It began to feel a little Twilightly.
Fourthly, screw book three. Mockingjay was like getting raped by a horse... a horse with two dicks who sounds like your mom telling you how disappointed she is in you. You follow this strong personality through three books only to get savagely raped by a double dicked horse with your mom's voice. Honestly, Susanne Collins could not have gone more awry if aliens from outer space came and abducted everyone. I can't say much more without giving it away other than she ends up with totally the wrong guy. Only for the reason that the other dude was in another district at the time. It was just sooo disappointing. To have it end the way it did after thirty hours of audio, it felt like a big waste of time.
I've not seen the film. I had started them with the intention of finishing the series before going to see the movie and my local cinema only had it for a week. The one week it was showing, it just didn't work with our schedule. Any way, I'll watch it and any other films that happen to come out, mostly because I want to see how much film makers may change the horrible ending.
On a scale of 1-10, it gets a 2.
