The outskirts of town, just outside of all the depressing sights and half ruined buildings. Most of the Resistance's raid take place here. This is a catch all area that will be used for multiple city outskirts.
Simon peeked his head out of an empty doorway of what used to be a gas station. The owners abandoned the place once the Nazis moved in and "confiscated" all their fuel and their mechanic's equipment. When he spotted no patrols, he waved the rest of them on. "Stay low, and move quickly. The outcropping is right over there." He pointed at a sharp incline that ended at a sheer rock face that was next to the railway.
Sin was the next out, following Simon with stealth and speed. She reached the rock face and slid to a halt, pulling her gun from her back and making sure it was loaded.
Wayne was obviously not bit into stealth. He walked out behind the others as if about to take a stroll in the park. They had never discussed a specific game plan, so he would just keep quiet and wait for Simon. Considering all the ammo he had stashed, Wayne figured this guy was a pro.
Simon made it to the top and looked around and saw no one. "Thunder." he said as he looked around again.
"Flash." came a voice from a large patch of tall grass as several other people stood up from the grass and moved towards them.
Sin finished loading her gun and immediately raised it at the sound of people elsewhere. Until she was told to stand down, she would keep the rifle trained on the lead person.
Wayne didn't falter. He just stood there with his hands on his hips, observing Simon's odd behavior.
Simon raised his hand up and used it to lower Sin's gun. "They're friends." he said and waited for them to get to them.
Sin lowered her rifle so the barrel was pointed at the ground. She nodded at Simon, then looked at the newcomers. "Where's the heat?" she asked casually, figuring that if they had been doing this for long enough, they would know the slang for enemy.
"Havent seen any in awhile, an hour at least." the guys said as the group of about seven people gathered around. Despite the fact there were no Nazis around, they were still looking over their shoulders. "The charges have been set and the plunger is right over there." said a smaller woman behind them.
"Good. Now it's just a waiting game."
Simon said with a nod as he looked down the tracks.
Wayne tipped his head and lifted his head, keeping his guard while the others chatted. He somewhat felt like he could talk his way out of anything, but if it came down to it, he would be the best to take a bullet before these youngsters.
Sin simply took her position as a rear guard. It would be easier for her to shoot someone than some of these others. They looked a little green behind the ears to her.
A loud yet low whistle could be heard wailing through the air, as smoke could be seen on the horizon getting closer. Anyone could tell, that their train was arriving.
"Alright everyone. Get down, stay low, and don't do anything till the T.N.T. goes off."
Simon said as he moved to the edge and laid on the ground, this should afford him a good look at the approaching train while keeping him out of sight. "Hit any Nazi you see and grab all that you can carry while still defending yourselves. There should be a few vehicles on the train, we are loading them up and driving off with them. Any questions before we move."
"Whatcha wanna bet ah can kill more than you?"
Wayne chuckled, smirking at Simon as he readied his weapons and crouched down.
Simon looked over at Wayne with no change in his expression before looking back out at the train. "I don't know. Wont be much of a challenge with you sporting those piddly pistols." A smirk slowly crept onto his face.
"Hey! Things things are classic! Better than those hotey toity doo-hickies you are usin'."
Wayne argued. Judging by the way he spoke, one would almost swear he was 80.
"I think I may put out more bullets then you do with a faster reload."
Simon said as he unknowingly caressed the PPSh. "It overpowers your little things, there."
Sin ignored their bantering and set up her rifle on the sand dune they were located behind. She had it pointed and ready to fire, her extra ammo in easy reach of her right hand. She was not revealing to them that she was a left handed shooter by her set up. She also set out two frag grenades as well as her handheld pistol within easy range as well.
"You youngin's and yer fancy smancy guns. Doesn't take much REAL skill."
Wayne said, double checking everything was loaded.
"Skill wont help ya any if you get shot."
Simon said as he readjusted his body to lower himself closer to the ground.
"Lil somethin' I didn't tell ya about myself."
Wayne began with a smirk. "Bullets can't really kill me...or knifes or bombs."
Simon didn't do much, except fix Wayne with a look of concern. "I've heard of inflated egos before, but don't you think that is a bit much?"
The country man chuckled. "Ah didn't want to mention it before, but I think now is as good a' time as ever. Ya know those enhancement doo-hickey things the Germans have? Well they usually test 'em out on civilians. At least they used to. I can heal from nearly anythin'."
Wayne wondered if he should mention his real age... Hmmm....maybe not.
"So I should assume that as an auto-volunteer for any future missions?"
Simon said, figuring that Wayne wouldn't want to talk about the experiments done to him by the Nazis.
"You got it, boss."
Wayne gave a thumbs up. Even though he had been experimented on, at least on the surface, he didn't seem to beat up about it. "Note, bombs take longer to heal from."
Sin, sick of the banter, turned around. "Would you two shut it!" she hissed at them. The train was close enough by now, and even if Wayne was older and Simon a superior officer, they were obnoxious. The both of them. Right now, she wanted to focus on keeping the people around her alive.
Wayne blinked widely at Sin's outburst. Lifting his hand to sheild his mouth, he leaned over to Simon, "Looks like someone's on their rag."
Simon knew that Sin was the "take things seriously" kind of woman, and liked that. Always need that one person to keep the group on focus. "She's right, you never know what these Krauts have themselves enhanced with."
"You kids are all so uptight."
Wayne tipped his hat up a bit so he could see more. It was easy for him to say that... he couldn't really die like they could.
Sin readjusted her stance. She had moved and lost her sight on the train. Setting her eye against the lens once more, she found the locomotive easily enough. Maybe Wayne could be useful, but right now, she wanted to shoot him just to find out how durable he really was. Could he have survived a close distance grenade blowout without his enhancements? Probably not. And that thought made her smile slightly as she kept an eye on the train.
The train was quickly approaching the rigged explosives. The plan was to destroy the engine so, despite what they took, none of it will arrive on time.
Simon pulled the American Flag remnant from his belt loops and folded it up before tieing it around his face, making himself look like a bandit from one of those old westerns. He looked behind him and nodded to the man at the plunger, signalling for detonation. With a simple "whir" sound, the plunger was pushed, followed shortly by a massive explosion that ripped the train engine in two and sent pieces of it scattering across the landscape. "Go!" he yelled as he stood and charged down and around towards the train.
"Yee-haw!"
Wayne shouted as he tore behind Simon, rounding to the left over the tracks so that they would come from different angles. He had his guns drawn and ready should he see anyone moving about in the front cars that had blown up.
Sin had her sight trained on the clockworks she had seen exiting the train. Her aim was on their head, her finger slowly squeezed the trigger as she exhaled.
The Clockwork's head kicked back from the impact of the bullet as it blew a nice portion of it away, exposing ruined gears and bits. Its partner immediately broke for cover and started firing on the charging Resistance. More Nazis were beginning to exit the train.
Simon jumped up onto one of the passenger cars that had tipped, as he ran towards the supply car, he tossed a grenade into the tangle of confused Nazis below him. A few seconds later there was a satisfying boom and several screams. "
Gotta get the goods and get the hell out."
Wayne was already working on that. He had hustled to one of the center cargo trains and slid between it and the freight it was attached to. Simon said to get the goods and get out as fast as possible and what was what he was intending to do. Grabbing one of the heavy latches, he began the process of opening the crate.
Sin felt no hesitation as she started firing at Nazis, taking careful aim as they exited the train. She was a precision shooter, and this was her area of expertise.
Simon saw Wayne and another man arrive at one of the supply cars. A third man tried to assist but was mowed down under and MP40. "
Shit" he said to himself as he pressed the trigger and put the responsible Nazi down with several bullets to the chest. He hopped down and ran up the train to Wayne and the other man. "Be quick, I spotted the vehicles and the people trying to get to them are pinned down, I'm going to try and help them out." Without waiting for a response he took off down the car towards the flatbed cars.
Nazi's were pouring out of the train now, while still many more fired from the protection of the windows. What was of a much larger concern was that several Nazis had either made it to or were trying to get to mounted .50cal machine guns ontop of the train cars. Also, a noticably higher ranked Nazi stepped out of the train with a sword in hand.
Krieg looked out the window of the train. This had to be the worst job he'd ever been assigned. Stow away on a train and hope that someone ambushed it. What fun! There was always the possibility that they wouldn't even ambush it. How wonderful....
A few Nazi soldiers sat around a crate playing cards, laughing and hollering at each other while two Clockworks stood guard near the box-car door. It didn't seem like anyone else expected an ambush any more then Krieg did.
Krieg couldn't believe they were just sitting there. They were given orders and they were playing. The Clockworks were a nice addition to the strategy though, at the very least they will execute as expected.
One of the Nazis had just accused another of cheating when he pulled out a royal flush. Before the fight could escalate there was a loud explosion towards the front of the train before the rest of the cars began to jump track.
Krieg had his sword drawn the instant the car lurched. Unlike the others, he was prepared for what lied ahead. He wondered where his would-be partner had gotten off to, but simply assumed he was off hiding somewhere beneficial to the cause.
The other Nazis were trying to recover and figure out what had happened, while the Clockworks had already picked themselves off the ground and were three cars down the line heading in the direction of the explosion. Suddenly there was the distinct sound of gunfire and one of the Clockworks went down missing half its head.
Hearing the sound of a small explosive,
Krieg assumed that was a grenade, he turned and kicked open the door of the car. He had no intention of allowing these rebels acquire anything this train was hauling.
