Something is going bump in the night, and every morning more toys are missing. Something is coming in and taking them away, sometimes in pieces. Jack, the abandoned jack-in-the-box is the only one that can stop these monsters and their master from sucking their boy's essence out and taking over his body. With the help of some hoodoo magic, he might just be able to succeed.
This is a very good book that will cause you to look at toys in a new light, one much different then was cast by Toy Story. An evil African spirit called The Plucker has broken free of it's prison that was given to a child as a gift from his father. It quickly creates minions and sets them out to do his dirty work and bring him toys to feed on.
The book manages to fill you with the desperate feeling the surrounds the toys as the try to survive and hide. Then the climactic battle at the end followed by a sad, book-ending reunion really makes you feel for the protagonists.
