The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson review
The Well of Ascension is the second book in the Mistborn trilogy.
It picks up where the first book left off. The majority of the book deals with how the remnants of Kelsier's original crew plus a few others (Elend, Tindwyl, Sazed, etc) deal with the aftermath of the defeat of the Lord Ruler. Everyone thought getting rid of the worst tyrant the world had known would have made the world a better place. How were they supposed to know that killing him was just the easy part? Now the mists are coming earlier and dissipating later in the day.
Throughout the second book, we find out more about the kandra people, and Luthadel (the most populous city in the region) is under siege by three separate armies! King Elend is kicked out of the city by the very laws he wrote. There was also a terrible secret about the Terris prophecies.
I'd love to go into more detail, but that would require spoiling too much. Go read for yourself!
Once again Sanderson has written a superb tale interwoven with the personal stories of its characters. He actually outdid himself here, mostly because of the great character development, but also because the reader totally identifies with the characters, especially Vin and Elend.
My review for book 3 (The Hero of Ages) coming soon!
