The Ylindre Mountains

Excerpt from ‘Fables of The Old World’ by Tomman Vassal
‘Atop the craggy mountains of Ylindre, where their pine tree’s and scrub a sparse or none existent is where the battle between the Lords of Epiphany and The Duke took place. The fabled seven fought long and hard as The Duke threw his minions at them for man, many days. It was in a mighty confrontation between Wisdom and the Duke, when the other six were so entangled in the dark and wicked ways of the Duke, which ended the conflict. Light met dark and the night sky cracked, leaving the total dark of the abyss glaring down from a space where stars should have been. In a mighty act which both saved the world and doomed himself Wisdom hurled the Duke into the sky where he was drawn like a rag doll into the abyss. Once done Wisdom fell and the nameless six sealed the rift in the colours of their epiphany, red, black, blue, yellow, purple and green. Woe though reader, woe to us all that white did not join the seal and make it as indestructible as time!’

‘… There are many quarrying communities set at the base of the mountains of Ylindre. Though this is a risk at the best of times it is often seen as worth it as the stone is very valuable and the only building stone available in Ghelt…
…A few who live in the shadow of the mountains have ventured up the gulleys and crevaces which allow passage up the vicious slopes, but no-one ever travels too far into the mountains. Those who do go however tell of the insatiable feeling of being watched. These adventurers return with Kofke gems which, when ground down are sued for remedies and medicines, they say they simply find them on the ground, semi-covered in earth…’
