The Trans-Continental Railroad was thought of after the Civil War was done. The idea was to connect the East to the West by means of rails and trains. So the Pacific West started to build their half of the railroad, and the East started to build their half, and meet face-to-face in Promatory Point, Utah. It took forever for both of them to get there, but there they met. President Ulysses S. Grant nailed down the final spike, and the two rail lines were one. On the way, the Union Pacific had many problems with indians. Tearing up rails, derailing locomotives, attacking stations, the indians did those and more. The Central Pacific had problems crossing deserts and snow-capped mountains, but hardly any indian attacks.
