Toxic Nightmare

How could he have fallen this far...

No matter how many days he wasted on that miserable thought, he could never find an answer. He, Lord Peregrine, crown prince to the Nightmare Lands, next high king-

Now nothing but a pathetic drug dealer, not even worthy of the title 'walking apothecary'.

He still had his people, his followers, possibly an army, if he looked into it enough, should he choose to rise and fight the oppression, but the humans of course were not going to give in without a fight.

A war.

That's what it had taken to suppress the creatures the humans had once feared every moment of their lives.

Like Death. Ever looming, they knew it was a threat.

And that is why, that fateful day, they had risen together and beat his people into submission.

Now he sold their precious toxins, no one but his people, and those repugnant creatures of day and life, knowing his true origins.

That he had once ruled the unconscious of man with an iron fist, prepared to step into the throne of his father and rule as no pathetic 'sand man' ever had.

And now these humans saw fit to call him nothing but a 'boogey man'.

The indignity of it all. It set his spines on end and he forced them down into the masquerade of an appearance only out of extreme self control. It drove him a little mad, to be honest.

Their cities thrived and drove the world into a darkness the prince would have relished, should he still have his power, but now only left him feeling mildly oppressed.

They had adapted themselves with chemicals kept in vials. 'Updating' and 'upgrading' themselves as they had once done with their precious computers, but now found themselves addicted to the toxins and poisons of the creatures they so despised, wanting better hearing, sight, touch, taste- The list was too long for him to remember.

Or care about.

What mattered to him was that he had a supply, and they had a demand, and it gave him a kind of mild power.

But some day, he'd think to himself as he smirked at yet another satisfied, haze-eyed customer.....

Some day. Soon.

He was going to rise again.
With his army.

And all of humanity would live his nightmare.

2014-10-21 [Asdroth]: Yeah... I got writer block... >.< it's got to do with the mindset works got me in right now...

2014-10-21 [Artsy]: Not to be pushy but... you could kind of use it as inspiration. I know you love being in the military and all that, and that's kinda what the creatures in this story loved, they loved being in the action zone, but then someone they would have otherwise respected are forcefully taking them away from it. Sure where you wind up is good too, but it's not what you're passionate about. =)

2016-04-09 [Artsy]: 7 chapters (if you include the current page). They're archived on the charter page and they are pretty short. I think total it takes a few hours to get through it? Depending on your speed. I'm on the slower side and last i read it I think I did it in an afternoon.

2016-04-09 [Artsy]: Oh wait! I just looked and it turns out we restarted at some point! If I recall correctly it was to make it easier on Asdroth and Autumn to join us and because you wanted to re-work your characters or something? We're like 4 posts in. lol
