The Party Palace of Tuvontoot

Prohibitions in fairytales are made to be broken, ...

Gunn Karine Jordet -Her article, "Østenfor sol og vestenfor måne" (East of the sun and west of the moon)

Tuvontoot is a castle constructed of stone, positioned on the top of a hill that rises out of the surrounding woodland, and the castle is controlled by house Mrriv. Though faërie castles are not a rare occurence this one is notable because it is an occasional Gate to the mortal realm. Once a year, during the autumn, the palace itself resides equally in the mortal and fey relams. This period stretches over three days, and this period of time has become a time to let loose and party.

The gate is not especially handy as a trading route, nor is it practical as a gateway. But in time, nobles have gathered at the castle to dance and drink and have a good time, and when the evening falls in the mortal world outside, they go out and mingle with the mortals. Their wild antics have become the stuff of legend, and there are few inhibitions on these nights. There are informal competitions over who can come up with the most novel and inventive highjinks each new year. Many nobles never visit the mortal lands except on this day, and so the festival at Tuvontoot has grown in importance, since in some cases it is the only way some fey register time.

This is, of course, very fortunate for house Mrriv, since it gives them additional power. Not only do they gain prestige and goodwill, since they host such a popular party year after year, but they can also specifically refuse to invite someone which has displeased them. It is a grave matter to not be invited to the annual fête at Tuvontoot, and whoever suffers this grave predicament will fall drastically in the eyes of the rest of the nobility. Needless to say, those with fragile status tread carefully around the official Inviters of Mrriv.

To use the gate all one has to do is enter or exit the castle gate or windows. Anyone inside the castle that exits during nighttime in the three-day period find themselves in the mortal lands. Anyone entering the castle from the mortal lands are immediately in Faêrie, with everything this entails. Those still within the castle when the gate-period ends are now in Faërie unless they find another exit, and anyone outside the castle at that time are stuck on the mortal plane.
