This is were characters go until they arrive at Facility, Fern's, or one of the district we have a page for.
A small group of soldiers were sent to district 15 to drive of an attack. The district wasn't the biggest and was in need of some repairs but it was still a lot better then the other districts around. Among the group of soldiers sent was, Jace, Debbie, and David. They had just completed they're take and were heading to leave town.
Debbie was talking to them over the walkie talkie clearly pleased before she paused and let out a gasp. "No way....Jace two alleys to your left, go!"
Not stopping to ask why--because it would be both unnecessary and a waste of time--
Jace barrelled down the street and into the second alley on his left, smelling the small group of zombies just beginning to gather there before she even finished her sentence and ripping the first three apart before they registered his presence.
"Jace, there was someone else in that ally a moment ago...I think they were from the fiasco in district eleven.."
Debbie said quietly as David jagged up behind Jace.
"If they
were here, they sure move fast."
Jace grumbled as he sniffed the air for any traces of the mysterious individual.
He could make out a very faint scent that was indeed familiar, but it was obvious the person is using something to mask it.
Jace snarled: "Masking sprays. Was anyone assigned to District Eleven with those?"
"I don't it had been perfected yet, so no."
Debbie replied, he could tell she was moving from the background noise.
"Is this serious? Should I call back up?"
David asked nervously.
"Not military, then. Any intel on that? Somethin' familiar underneath."
Jace glanced at his star pupil from the corner of his eye. "They're not here anymore. So no back-up. Best ya call to let 'em know in case they're close, though. Dun wanna catch the others off-guard..."
David nodded stepping to the side to make his report so Jace could still hear Debbie well.
"I'm pretty sure it was a male. I'm trying to spot him again, he was heading towards the east side of town."
Debbie stated with mild irritation, probably from losing sight of the figure.
Jace only gave Debbie a short nod before racing east, keeping aware of the scents around him so he could approach the man from a distance in case he was armed.
He kept catching faint whiffs but never long enough to completely place it to a face, if he had even seen the person before. After a while he caught the scent only to have it abruptly stop between two buildings on the edge of town.
Jace gave a low growl as he glared at the space between the buildings.
"No sign of the target on my end."
Debbie reported in a quiet sigh.
"The scent trail stops. Doesn't fade. Just stops."
"Ho-...oh so they have scent blockers too."
Debbie growled in frustration.
"That or he's a hell of a jumper."
Jace huffed as he scratched the back of his head.
"If he jumped I would've seen him."
Debbie replied with a sigh.
"But why not use the scent blockers earlier...?"
"Very good question...I'm picking up a few heat signatures but none of them really seem to be heading your way or trying to avoid you.."
Debbie stated in thought.
"I want this area scoped out by a team. Maybe there's a room or path with scent-blockers instead of a person."
"Already sending the older scouts your way, David and a few others are hanging back with me."
"Got it."
Jace responded even as he began inspecting the walls for any entrances.
There didn't seem to be a good explanation for how the individual could just disappear since none of the buildings were facing this location, there weren't any ladders and even if there was Debbie would have seen them, there was a sewerage drain but it was to small, and tightly sealed, for anyone other then a child to get through.
Jace cursed under his breath as he waited for the scouts to arrive.
He heard the quiet footsteps of the scouts as they approached. "Any leads?" One asked quietly.
"Nuthin'."
Jace huffed.
A few the scouts scanned the area using heat detectors try to find any signs. "Hmm...That's weird. what race could move that quickly and undetected?"
Drake was one of the last to leave for the groups new home, mainly because he had so much equipment and so little volunteers to help. Graham helped for awhile before leaving with Fern so the only person left that was willing help was Blaine. Blaine was now the one driving them through the dried out countryside, he wasn't really talking much and the radio only made buzzing noises or gave district warnings so there really wasn't much to entertain yourself with.
Once he finished fiddling with the radio in the hopes that something interesting would at least be in the district warnings--a fruitless endeavor, entirely--
Drake resorted to picking at the long-healed scars on his fingers, seriously considering peeling off the nail from his pinky finger.
Blaine glanced over, shuddering slightly as he noticed what Drake was doing. "Please don't get blood in the vehicle..."
"Of course, my apologies."
Drake gave the demon a sheepish smile as he pointedly set his hands in his lap and sat stock-still.
after a brief sound of acknowledgemen
t from Blaine, everything fall back to it's uncomfortable silence with the occasional pop of a rock under the tires to break up the silence.
the scenery finally started showing foliage and before long they had patches of woods on both sides them.
so it was a very shocking and unexpected surprise that the thing that broke up the drab drive was a thud of a young young silver haired girl running from the woods into the side of Drake's door. The girl simple popped back up as Blaine slammed on the breaks only to hit the hood and slide slowly down it in her disoriented attempt to move around the vehicle.
"Oh, dear!" Drake immediately reached for his door handle to step out and check on the poor girl.
Blaine swear as she got out. "Please tell me I didn't kill her.."
The young girl was unconscious from the impact of her hitting her head on the hood. her clothes were little more than rags that barely covered anything making it hard to differentiate what it used to be. on closer inspection her hair was rather disheveled with browns, grays and reds through it from dirt ,dust, and blood. it was apparent that they weren't the only thing that hurt her. she had bruising and cuts over most her body, and from what Drake could make out of her dirt and blood stained skin, a lot of scarring.
The first thing Drake did was check the girl's pulse, even as he summoned the medical authority to give Blaine a quick order: "Get a rag and water bottle from the back."
The girl's pulse was strong and quick. Her nose was badly bleeding and her eyes where developing bruising. Her forehead had a gash and bruising from hitting the hood.
Blaine quickly gathered everything he was told too along with a medical bag. "Do you think she'll be okay? or is it to early to tell?" he asked setting the bag beside Drake.
"Might be some internal damage..." Drake mumbled half to himself as he took out a rag to apply pressure to her forehead. His voice rose to an easier-to-hear volume once he processed Blaine's question. "Not because of you! I mean, probably not. She appears to have been in bad shape before...well..."
"That doesn't make me feel much better...Do you think we can move her?" Blaine asked using a rag and water to wash around the girls wounds.
"We'll have to. If there's any internal damage, I can't do much out here. The good news is, none of her bones seem to be broken. Still, we have to be gentle."
Blaine nodded as he got in position to help left her as carefully as possible.
"Ah...would you mind taking the head and shoulders? I'm not quite as fit, I'm afraid~"
"No problem." Blaine replied as he readjusted to pick her up as planned. As there arms gripped her limbs it became even more apparent that she was severely malnourished, she was little more then skin and bones. Even in her unconscious state she whimpered in a mixture of both pain and fear upon their touch.
"Poor, frightened little mouse..." Drake murmured sadly as he and Blaine carried the woman to the car.
They successfully got her into the back. Blaine gathered up the medical bag and put it in the back as well before moving back to the drivers seat. "I'll try to avoid anything that might disturb her."
No sooner had he said it The girl bolted upright and quickly looked around as she tried scurrying backwards into the corner.
"Don't worry, dear mouse, don't worry~" Drake spoke as soothingly as his naturally hissing lilt would allow, holding his hands up in front of him in a gesture of surrender.
"No..no mouse...Spot.Not..mouse."She said in a dry gravelly voice,"Spot..food yes? Spot food...no."she points to her stomach in a questioning manner then then to herself as a negation of untoward ideas.
Alan had been traveling for quite a while, it had been some time since he had last eaten and there were no signs of a village in site, just grass lands and trees.
'Oh man, I hope I come across some sort of animal soon.' Alan thought to himself, after all, a hungry vampire is not a very good thing to be or be around. His eyes were turning crimson from the blood lust.
He could smell smoke, and meat yet to be cooked in the distant woods.
Alan sniffed at the air and followed the scent of raw meat, he quickly yet quietly jumped from tree to tree til the scent was over powering.
He come across a group of five people; Two females, two males, a little boy huddled around a fire. A dead deer laid by them, it had just finished getting skinned by one of the men who was now moving the skin and fur away from the body.
Alan watched from the tree, though he was hungry he didn't want to steal food from a women and a child, he was about to leave when the branch he was standing on collapsed under him.
The woman quickly grabbed the child, shielding him protectively, as the other pulled a shot gun from behind the log she was on. The man who had been taking care of the animal skin quickly dropped it and held his knife at the ready. Luckily for Alan they paused to see what he was and if he was hostile.
"Ouch! Dang it!" Alan said, he stood up and looked down at his arm, it was bleeding, he must have cut it when he fell.
"Wh-who are you, what where you doing up there?" The woman asked in a shaky attempt to sound strong and stern.
"S-sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, I saw the smoke and got curious." Alan said, he ripped a piece of the bottom of his shirt off and wrapped it around his arm.
"He is just a boy, let him join us in a meal." The woman with the child stated to the others who still seemed reluctant.
"No, no, I wouldn't want to intrude." Alan said, he held his hands up as his stomach made a growling noise.
"Your stomach tells another story, now sit." The woman stated as the others backed off and lowered their weapons.
"Ye-yes ma'am." Alan said, he came out of the forest and sat down avoiding eye contact.
one of the men approached him and offered him a plate of deer, berries, and some dried out veggies.
"Thank you." Alan said, he smiled politely as he took the plate from the man.
"Sorry it's still a bit bloody." The man murmured clearly not comfortable with Alan yet.
"That's alright, I don't mind, not squeamish in the slightest." Alan said, he smiled again as he ate the deer meat first, without quenching his blood lust first, his body would reject the rest of the food.
"Glad to hear it. Some folks can't stand even the slightest bit of pink... Ridiculous really, since in this day and age you're lucky to make it through the day let alone make it with food in your belly." The woman with the shotgun stated glancing at the gun resting against her hip as If it was testament to her statement. The other woman shot her a glare as she pulled her son to her side gently. "Catherine! Don't say such things in front of the youth."
"I know what you mean ma'am, you have to eat whatever you can get, shouldn't complain if it's too under cooked, at least it's food." Alan said, he nodded at the woman with the shotgun as he finished his deer meat.
Catherine nodded with a smirk before turning to the other woman. "He understands, so no harm done, besides you shouldn't try hiding things from the people who're gonna inherit this mess."
Alan didn't say a word as he finished his food, but then he smiled at everyone, "Thank you for sharing your food with me, it was very kind of you, but I think maybe I should keep moving now." He said, he stood up to leave.
"Are you sure you want to go alone? We can travel to the next town together if you'd like?" The mother stated with concern.
"Oh, it's ok, I'm used to traveling alone." Alan said, he smiled at the mother and thanked her for the offer.
"Alright then... If you're sure."
"I'm sure, good luck to you guys." Alan said, he nodded before disappearing into the woods.
Jack had been spending a nice amount of time with a pretty young girl, unfortunately her father wasn't as about her accompanying him as she was and was more then happy to get the girl home leaving Jack alone... At least he was in one of the nicer districts but it was also a very boring one.
"Why did that old man have to crash the party, I was having so much fun, now it's dull." Jack said, he sighed as he looked around for someone or something to do. *wink wink*
A group of four girls walked by giggling at a joke one of them made. One of the brunettes nudge her blonde friend and nodded towards Jack they whispered something to each other and giggled while blushing.
Jack grinned at them and walked over to he group of girls, "Hello ladies." He said, he winked at them.
"Oh, Hello sir~" The Blonde replied tilting her head in mock shyness.
"You ladies having a good time tonight? Maybe you can help me find something to do, I'm incredibly bored." Jack said, he could tell the girl wasn't actually shy, but he ignored it.
"Well, we were heading to a party. It might be a little fast pace for you though." The Brunette replied with a wink as the other girls exchanged looks.
"Fast pace? Please, I know I can keep up with you girls." Jack said, he winked back at the brunette girl and smirked at the others.
The girls giggled and smiled at one another before winking at him. "We'll see about that~ these way, Mr..?"
"Call me Jack." Jack said, he smiled at the girls as they giggled.
"Alright Jack~ I'm Chloe, she is Blaire, and Amy." Chloe, the blonde, replied motioning to the others from left to right.
"Nice to meet you, such pretty names for such pretty girls." Jack said, he winked at the girls and smiled.
The girls walked with him making small talk and slipping in flirts after a few minutes they were approaching a nice sized building with music blasting out and different colored lights streaming through the windows. He almost missed the sound of a scream from one of the near by allies.
"Did you hear that, I think I heard a scream, it was faint so I'm not sure." Jack said, he looked in the direction of the ally were the scream came from.
The girls looked at one and other and shook their heads look a little worried. "No, but this is the shady side of town.." Chloe replied seeming nervous now.
"You girls go ahead, I'll check it out." Jack said, he looked worried as he headed into the ally, he pulled out a gun that none of the girls had noticed as he walked.
He heard a loud crash fallowed by a childlike whimper as he rounded the corner. a round trash can rolled towards him and just a few feet in front of him a dog lounged for something behind a larger dumpster.
Jack's eyes went wide, he couldn't let a child get hurt so he aimed carefully and shot the dog in the side of it's chest.
The dog let out a yelp as it fell but before long it was getting back up, thick dark reddish brown blood dripped from it's wound as it turned to him. A missing eye and patches of rotting flesh along with the blood made it obvious to see what he was dealing with.
"A f**king zombie dog." Jack mumbled, he shot at the dog again, and was able to hit it twice in the head as it ran at him.
The dog fell to the ground, this time dead for good. There was a small shuffling noise before a little one peeked out from behind the dumpster. In the current lighting it almost looked like she had black hair and eyes. Her hair wasn't the cleanest and was pulled into two small ponytails. Her face had dirt and scraps over it as well as what he could see of her hand. The child just had its eyes locked on his seeming to judge him, expecting him to turn the monster is.
"Hey, are you alright, that thing didn't get you did it?" Jack asked, he put his gun back on safety and knelt down so he was eye level with the little girl.
The girl leaned against the wall behind her. She was still eyeing him suspiciously."...it scratched my arm...but that's it."
"Are you bleeding, do you need a bandage?" Jack asked, his voice was sincere as he spoke, but he didn't make a move towards the girl, he could tell she didn't trust him.
The Girl stood and stepped out from behind the the dumpster, one arm clutched a big, white glaring teddy bear while the other was it her side blood running down it from two long gashes.
"Oh, that looks bad, want me to take care of that?" Jack asked, he nodded at the girl's arm and smiled softly.
Zane Saw the odd looking portal and knew it would lead somewhere different, after all he had been warned enough about them, but he probably wasn't expecting to go from a beautiful green forest to the crumbled remains of a city. Everything around seemed gray, from the sky to the ground, the glass on the ground didn't even reflect anything due to the layers of dust.
'Wow, this place looks awful, does everywhere in the human world look like this?' Zane thought, even though he didn't know where he was going he chose a direction and began walking in it.
It just seemed to be more ruins and dust for while but after around ten minutes he started to hear moaning coming from one of the still standing buildings.
'What's that noise, is someone hurt?' Zane thought as he got closer to the building, he hesitated for a moment wondering if he should enter, then he did. "H-hello? Anyone there?" He called.
Just as he stepped in his shoe stuck to the slippery floor. Before he really had a chance to react another moan came from his left followed by a short scream and a soft gargling noise.
"What the...?" Zane blinked as he ran over to see what was making all the racket and who had screamed.
At first it looked like there was a woman leaning against the window, but then the little amount of light that came through the window managed to illuminate something... It looked almost skeletal, with some muscle and skin still clinging on at varies points. More disturbing than its looks was what it was doing, it appeared to be eating the woman's waist.
Zane quickly put his hand over his mouth so he wouldn't gasp aloud and alert the thing to his presence, he slowly backed up and towards the open door being very careful not to bump into anything on his way out as he watched the creature to make sure it didn't turn around.
The creature seemed engrossed enough in it's meal that it payed him no mind. However, the sound of movement from another room off to Zane's side made it impossible to feel any relief or comfort from the creatures lack of attention.
Zane hesitated, he glanced at the door leading outside and then the one where the movement came from, curiosity got the better of him and he crept over to it and gently opened the door and peeked inside. If it was someone scared and hiding from the creature he couldn't just leave.
It looked like a little black haired boy no older then eleven was digging through some debris, perhaps trying to find a place to hide.
"H-hey, you ok?" Zane asked, he said it in a barely audible voice before touching the boy's shoulder.
The boy spun around quickly upon his touch. Zane hardly had time to register the blood around the kids mouth before the kid was holding Zane's arm while trying to bite into his arm.
"Whoa!" Zane said, he ripped his arm from the boy's grasp and jumped back.
The boy paused for a moment before rushing at him again flinging his arms wildly in an attempt to slash Zane.
Zane raised his hands in front of him putting up a wall of ice between him and the boy, then he jumped from the window.
From the sounds of it the creature from earlier had heard the commotion and was now in the room he had just jumped from, not that it really mattered since Zane's legs had taken him several feet away from the building without him having realized it.
Zane didn't stop running until his legs felt heavy and he couldn't breathe properly, he hid behind a tree and sat down to recover.
Just as he had settled down he heard the loud hum of an engine and a man's hardy laughter. This wouldn't be to odd...except there wasn't exactly a road just a dirt trail barely big enough for two people to walk side by side, yet he was definitely hearing what sounded like a vehicle approaching or at least he would've recognized it as a vehicle if he knew what one was.
Zane had never heard a noise like that before, he thought it was another creature after him so he screamed a rather unmanly scream as he ran, he tripped over a root and fell on the trail face first.
"Lidey, there's a boy in the road!" A little girl yelled, she sounded worried.
The tires screeched as the metal monster swung to the side and stopped about five feet away. He heard the male voice the laugh probably belonged to. "Stay in the truck Abbs." Right after the metal parted and a raven haired man stepped out with a smirk and some weird device in his hand. "Whatcha doin in da middle of the road?"
"What is that thing?" Zane asked, he pointed at the vehicle the man had just gotten out of, he had a look of fear and confusion on his face.
"It's a car, haven't you ever seen one before?" The little girl said from the seat, Zane just looked even more confused.
"Well, a truck ta be precise..." The man added as he looked Zane over. "Ya don't get out much, huh?"
"No, uh, my first time in this world." Zane said, he brushed himself off and looked at the truck curiously.
"What cha doing in the road?" The little girl asked, she was slowly sneaking towards the door.
"I uh, got startled by your truck." Zane said, he avoided eye contact as he spoke.
"Pfft hehe, most people would move away from da thing they're scared of." The man stated before looking more serious. "Where do ya come from an' where ya 'eading?"
"Well, I didn't know where it was coming from. Um, well, I come from a really far away place, don't really know where to go." Zane said, he wasn't sure if he should tell the man and girl that he was from the underworld.
Seth had found a nicely populated district with little security, which made grabbing a snack easy but choosing the snack was proving to be more difficult due to people constantly being around and most traveling in packs.
'Damn humans, why do they have to be so smart?!' Seth thought, he was trying to find someone falling behind or by themselves.
It didn't seem like any of the humans were dumb enough to separate. Two officers approached Seth their helmets made it hard to make out their faces. "City law states that you are to be in a group of at least two at all times, if you'd like we can accompany you to your home or destination."
"I'm new around here so I didn't know the law, is there any place around here that offers a place to sleep?" Seth asked, perhaps he could find a place to sleep and maybe a nice warm meal.
"Yes, we'll escort you to the Hotel." The other officer replied the voice sounded more feminine then the other one.
"Why thank you, I'm sorry to be so much trouble." Seth said, he smiled at the more feminine sounding officer and bowed his head slightly.
"Not at all, it's our job to serve and protect." The male officer replied as they started leading the way.
"Serve and protect, nice motto." Seth said, he followed the two officers and watched the people around him as he passed them.
"It's a common one for any form of military." The man replied not seeing why it was so special or "nice" as Seth put it.
"True, but not all members follow it sadly." Seth said, he saw a building in front of them that looked somewhat like a hotel.
"That's true. Well, here is the hotel." The woman replied stopping by the door.
"Thank you for showing me the way." Seth said, he bowed to both in a gentlemanly way.
"No problem, if you need anything feel free to ask an officer." They replied almost in unison giving him a polite nod.
"I will, thank you." Seth said, he nodded as he opened the door and walked inside the hotel.
It was a nice hotel, not a five star, but it wasn't bad for a few nights stay. The Clerk turned to him and smiled in welcome as he set down some papers. "Welcome! How can I help you tonight?"
"I need a room for three days, if that's possible." Seth said, he smiled politely at the clerk.
"Any particular room type or bed size?" The Clerk asked.
Seth thought for a moment, "I only need one bed, and I'd really like a full size bed."
"No problem." The clerk replied with a hum as he typed on the computer. "I need a name and means of payment."
"Of course, the name is Seth Delmar, and how much do you need?" Seth asked, he watched as the clerk typed on the computer.
The clerk gave him the price as he pulled out a small envelope and set it on the counter.
Seth handed the clerk some money and smiled, "Thank you."
The clerk smiled as he took the money and slide the cream colored envelope over. "Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Have a pleasant evening."
"No problem." Seth said, he took the envelope and disappeared to find his room.
His room was clean and decent sized, with a bed, a large dresser with a TV on it, and a desk and chair. A pamphlet by the TV stated that it had more then just news and warning stations, a rare treat outside of the major cities. There was also a pool a gym.
"Not bad." Seth said, he closed the room door and sat down on the bed and looked out the window at the dark sky.
