Vampire Academy series review
Written by; Richelle Mead
There are three books in the Vampire Academy series (to this day) and I will touch on the subject of all three of them.
The Vampire academy series is about a young girl named Rose Hathaway, a daphmir (which is a half vampire) who protects a young Moroi (a living vampire) as they attend an academy built to protect half and whole vampires from Strogoi, who are undead vampires. This is the basic point of the series, the struggle between the living vampires and the undead vampires.
Book one; Vampire Academy -
The book Vampire academy was different to say the least. It caused me to veiw vampires in a totally different light. For anyone who wants to shake away the 'perfect' image of the vampires that stain the minds of millions from the 'Twilight' series then you should look this series up. It portrays vampires more like normal teenagers and not un-realistic gods. They have fears and insecurities, loves and laws, trials and troubles. It was very well detailed and organized. Vampire academy is a must read for any avid vampire fans.
Book two; Frostbite -
Frostbite is spooky. At first you think that everything will be fine, that everything is ok. It is very well written and organized but it is much darker than Vampire Academy. It touches on the subject of life and death, forbidden love and insanity. It gives you your first real introduction to the Strogori and the ending will leave you in tears. You feel Roses pain and Lissas excitement, the characters are so real and there emotions are so clear and understandable
. Frostbite may be heartwrenching, but it was worth staying up all night to read.
Book three; Shadow kiss -
Shadow kissed caught me by suprise. Frostbite was painful and sad, but Shadow kiss was worse. It was beautiful, amazing, shocking (in a good way), and terrifying. I read the book in two days. I couldn't put in down and the pages were riddled in suprises. There were so many loose ends in the begining, but Richelle Mead tied it up so perfectly in the end. The ending to this book was solomn and bittersweet. The battles were well thought through and I feared for each and every characters life. She set the book up for the next one, which I belive will probably the final in the series, but I do not see how any book could be better than this one. Shadow kiss was insiteful, explaining everything that the other two books had left open, it closed an important chapter in Roses life and opened up and new and terrifying one, one that I know will leave us hoping for more.
The series as a whole also took me by suprise. In my years as an avid book fan, I have found that there are not many series in which 'every' book in the series is well written, with a solid plot and amazing endings. I have not found anything about the Vampire academy series that I do not like, do not understand or do not appreciate.
Next time you step into a book store you should be sure pick up this thrilling series and (may I make a pun now?) sink your fangs into this epic tale of good verses bad, light verses dark and insanity verses stabability.
