Todd poked his head into the den, “Sir, there are a few more missing persons’ reports. All of them are within the same 20 mile radius, too.”
“How many are missing?” Dimitri asked.
“There’s at least 8 and counting,” Todd replied grimly.
“We’re going to have to move faster at any rate,” Dimitri sighed and closed the book he was reading through.
“We can’t work any faster than what we have been…” Dane protested groggily.
“Nonetheless, for the sake of humanity we have little choice,” Dimitri said with finality in his tone.
“Vampires have been around for centuries. What makes you so sure they’re going to take over the world now?” Chris asked, glancing up from the book he was studying. Roy glanced over in curiosity simultaneously with Marc.
“Because they have been exposed and they have no choice but to act,” Dimitri said calmly.
“I doubt me looking like a paranoid idiot counts as vampires being exposed,” Todd rolled his eyes, remembering his television appearance.
“Gentlemen, we are going to play around with a vampire puppet,” Dane smiled, pointing to an incantation in a grimoire.
“A puppet?” Marc questioned.
“We need a weak-minded vampire who can track down the necklaces for us,” Dane said simply, rereading the spell. “With any weak-minded vampire we can control their mind and body with ease from considerable distance.”
“Excellent,” Dimitri cackled. “Do you five have a problem playing with dolls?”
“Dolls?” they chorused, each of them skeptical.
