Vampire Heart
Scroll 02: Another Myth to Add to the Collection
Naoko sat on her bed, staring out the window. She considered continuing the novel she was engrossed in, but even for a nerd that might prove to be a bad way to celebrate. She knew her fascination was abnormal, but she couldn’t help it. Vampires were the most mystifying thing she could think of in the entirety of the world.
The vampire men were gorgeous in every way, handsome features, gentle voices and with the sultry dangerous aura. They were perfect, save their cravings for human blood…not even that can add to the sex appeal of a dangerous man.
A knock on her bedroom door startled her, interrupting her train of thought. Her grandmother Bonnie eased the door open and stepped inside, gently closing the door again. She joined Naoko on the bed, taking her granddaughter’
s hand in hers, faking a smile. It was so hard to be positive when Naoko was so depressed.
“What is it, Grandma?” she asked quietly, still staring at the novel.
“I want you to have this. Let’s just call it a charm for attracting your perfect man,” her grandmother handed her a small gold necklace with a blood red stone embedded in it.
Naoko smiled weakly, “Isn’t this the thing that makes vampires want humans?”
“Exactly…we all know that human men aren’t perfect, so why not one-up them?” Her grandmother laughed a little which made Naoko smile.
Bonnie grinned as she patted Naoko’s lap affectionately, her silver hair lining her face. She looked at a younger version of herself happily. “You know I’m always here for you, right, sweetie?”
“I know, grandma…” Naoko replied.
Bonnie nodded once, “Happy birthday.”
“Thanks,” Naoko replied.” Bonnie then left her granddaughter alone again, with her new pendant. Naoko ran her fingertips over the pendant. It was very shiny and it caught her eye easily. She shrugged and blindly fastened the jewel around her neck before grabbing her novel and curling up happily with her newest vampire novel.
