Scroll 39: Faulty Methods
Dane and Dimitri stood above a map they had spread out on the floor of their base. The other not-so-magical vampire hunters were standing upright and staring down at the map, boggled.
“You have crystals that are going to tell you where everything is?” Chris asked, trying to stifle laughter.
“Just because you don’t believe in it doesn’t make it real,” Marc said quietly.
“It’s called scrying. It’s the only method we could find to searching for vampires,” Dane replied with a cold glare at the skeptic.
Dimitri held the scrying crystal pendant above the map and watched it spin. The crystal seemed to dance to an unheard rhythm as it dangled in the open air. For a moment it seemed to have a mind of its own. Dimitri slowly released the string suspending the jewel and watched it levitate above the map, still moving in slow circular patterns.
The crystal shot toward Dimitri who narrowly dodged the whetted gem that shattered against the wall.
“There goes that method,” Todd said as he cracked his knuckles.
“That has never happened before,” Dane murmured.
“Screw magic. We were finding vampires just fine hunting in wooded areas. I say we jump back to our old routines and let the two magicians have fun doing card tricks,” Roy growled.
Todd nodded once, “We’ve been wasting time doing nothing but look up missing people reports.”
“If you think you’re superior to magic, then go,” Dimitri offered. All of the vampire hunters save Dane and Dimitri ambled out of the room, then the house. “We don’t need them…”
“That’s still never happened before,” Dane shook his head, staring down at the crystal shards.
“Look, we can just scry for them if they have any luck with vampire hunting. We only need some Valentine descendants alive,” Dimitri whispered.
