The year... forgotten. Books suggest it's probably somewhere between 2015 and 2045 but the date doesn't really matter anymore. There's not enough people to really care for that matter.

The world isn't anything close to what it used to be. There's constant war. The endless fighting decimating any and everything from small vilages to metropolitan areas. Every country of the world has fallen. Now there is only land and sea. Mountains and skies. And the people.

And I use the word people lightly. There are us humans of course. What the so called higher race calls the rats of the intelligent beings. We're merely food and fun for them. Then there are those monsters. But I'll get to them in a second.

Humans. What makes us? Bodies, thought process... will to live. That's the big one. We want to survive, no matter what is going on or where we are, we have an consuming want to be. To exist. Our worst collective nightmare is that we will one day vanish. To be nothing more than the dust THEY walk on is unthinkable.

When I say they, I mean the nightwalkers, vampires, whatever you want to call them. I don't really have a preferation, except for maybe the bastards. They are our mortal enemies.

Vampires have always been a part of our culture as far as I can tell from the few books I've found that mentioned them. And those books always portray them as evil, slaughtering, baby stealing, bastards. And the books are right. Never have I meant a vampire that I liked... And never have I let a vampire that I met live.

Anyways, the books. The books aren't totallu right though. According to the books, vampires breed by biting humans and turning them, but that's not how they work. They breed like any other race. They have sex, they get pregnant, they have babies. I've heard that for them it's a very unpleasant experience at birth, but I could care less. So, you're probably asking yourself, where does that leave us. Easy. Food. They eat us. Don't get me wrong, we're not their soul source of food, but we're their number one on the menu.

A couple other things the books got wrong. They don't just drink our blood. They eat us. The whole body. Some parts are favored over others, but they eat us, not just the blood. Also, they can defenitly walk in the light. Pretty grim for us, eh? Well, thankfully the books got one more thing wrong. They can die just like any of us, they can just take a bit more punishment. Thank god... if there is one.

Now, to the monsters. They are... well... monsters. They roam the world, eating us. Yeah, we're the bottom of the food chain. Now, the reason we call them monsters is becuase none of us can tell if they're sentient or not. Sometimes they're the smartest bastards you'll ever fight, and then other times they're as ignorant as a newborn. Basically, they're unpredictable. They can set traps, good ones, and sometimes, they'll just rush you even though they're getting cut down one after another, with no regard for their own safety. I've also heard them called zombies, but I don't know what that word means. I've never come across it in a book anywhere.

So, that's our world. What I percieve of it anyways. I'll write more some other time.
