Appearance - Rasul, being a mix of both dark-skinned Majai and light-skinned Daguerrian, bears a medium to dark, smooth complexion and facial features that lead most to describe him as "pretty", for a man at least. His medium length black, wavy hair he keeps combed back from his face, though a stray curl or two tends to fall freely onto his forehead, and his thick black eyebrows and eyelashes contrast greatly with his bright, sky blue eyes, a trait garnered from his fair-haired father. However, due to his visual impairment, Rasul is often seen wearing a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles, partially obscuring the brilliant blue color and dulling it slightly. The man's straight nose sits over a pair of deep pink lips, and a square jaw and high cheek bones outline his entire face. Just as well, Rasul is a thin man, though he sports faint evidence of muscle on his body, implying that he once was more athletic than he is currently, and he stands at a few inches above average, around 5'9".
Personality - Despite the man's obsession with supposed malpractice and the use of magic - against the Royal Academy's wishes, Rasul is in actuality a very kind and caring man. He treats people, especially patients, with the utmost care, and is no stranger to a single person he meets, thus strengthening his reputation as a good, renowned back alley doctor. The man is not quick to anger, but he does have his faults. One, in particular, is his inclination to being annoyed when someone dares to give him the nickname "Russ", though he rarely divulges why it irritates him so. At times, some have noticed that Rasul seems to be off in his own world, either through simply daydreaming or intently focused on his practice, and some say he seems almost sad. Rasul has his nightly drinks, and on his saddest nights, he'll drink himself into a stupor, usually requiring some help getting home.
History - Rasul was one of many children lucky enough to grow up in the rich suburbs of the underground Royal City, but one of few of Majai heritage to do so.
Always an outgoing individual, much like his son, Rasul's blonde-haired, blue-eyed father met a Majai woman and bravely asked for her hand in marriage at a young age, an act of which his own racist parents strongly disapproved. Cutting all ties with his parents, Rasul's father married his fiancee, and they soon bore their first child, Rasul. Some years later, they had their second child, Sameer. Both brothers grew up wanting and needing very little, and both were very close throughout their younger years.
At 17 years old, Rasul had finished his primary and secondary schooling and had decided to go to school to obtain his doctoring degree. During his second year at school, Rasul met a Daguerrian woman that attended the Royal Academy, his future wife, Lily Anne. Almost immediately, the two fell in love and married the following year, just after the man's 19th birthday. Unfortunately, shortly after the two were wed, Rasul's father was to be relocated, because of his job, to Ajdanen. Rasul and Lily Anne stayed behind as the man's family moved away, though the two made a promise to visit at least three times per year. Not long after the move, Lily Anne discovered she was pregnant, and 9 months later, during Rasul's 20th year, the two were the happy parents of a curly-headed blonde haired girl, Sophie.
Rasul finally graduated from the Royal School 2 years later, and because of his outstanding marks, he was graduated almost immediately to a high-paying job as a doctor for the Academy. He prospered at his career, and his family enjoyed their happy lives of luxury. As kind as he was, Dr. von Hobbes also occasionally reached out and helped some of the more unfortunate citizens of Royal City, treating those who might be too poor to go to the Royal Academy for medical attention.
During his 26th year, an unusual epidemic of influenza struck the lower city, and Rasul found himself stationed there for several weeks, treating the disease. Unfortunately, he too fell victim to the virus, and upon return home, unintentionally passed on the illness to his own wife and child. Despite all his best efforts to heal them, less than a week later, Sophie had passed. Lilly Ann had been holding on well, but after her daughter's passing, both her emotional and physical conditions rapidly declined, and only two days later, Rasul's wife was gone.
Devastated and without any family to console him, Rasul went back to his job and worked tirelessly and around the clock, seemingly never going home and spending all his time at the hospital. At any given time, he was either performing a surgery, reading medical books, or taking a short, unintended nap. It was during this time that the man resorted to desperate measures and began studying magic. Being half Majai, magic had always been in his familial blood, but it had never been a tradition within his immediate family. Much to the Royal School's dismay, Rasul began to experiment with some of his more desperate patients, and this led immediately to his exile from the School.
Without a viable source of income, Rasul packed what little he cared to take with him and moved into the slums, where he had gained a reputation among the poor as a kind and caring doctor. With no School to direct his operations, Rasul continued to study magic, falling under the influence of Hydara. He rarely used magic in his practices, choosing to only perform it on the dying or the dead, or sometimes the gravely injured, but no spell had yet given him the results he sought.
Now, living in the poorest area of the city, Rasul serves as a healer to the unfortunate and he continues to explore magic, seeking a spell that could bring himself, and others, the happiness they crave.
