A bao a qu

A bao a qu are a sort of tentacled creature that lives on the life force of other creatures. This bizarre animal lives at the bottom of towers called "Towers of Enlightenment". Tower of death would be a more appropriate name. The further someone or something climbs the tower, the more of its life force goes into the a bao a qu. It is unclear whether there are one or many a bao a qus.
