When the Fairytale Calls
Oh, Fairytale, don't you cry,
Though the vultures are outside calling.
Your castle's still high and dry -
But, Fairytale, the sky is falling.
And you should know I'm standing guard nearby,
To buckle any beak that starts squawking;
They don't have to know the dream's a lie,
Not while judging eyes are busy gawking.
The Pirate is rogue and frightened,
And his ship's been lost unto the weeds.
Those vultures are bound to blight him;
They'll want to bring him down unto his knees.
For a moment, you might think it alright then -
The mirror's price for shattering dreams.
But, Fairytale, my soul's not been furied;
He remains the Pirate King to me.
You know the Phoenix is sure to fly,
Engulfing you in her fiery haven.
Oh, Fairytale, the fire won't die -
Not while Sugarplum's here to save it.
Those airy beasts are loud in their taunting,
Circling for a prone ear to ignite;
See me out here, hackled, ready to fight them -
Just to make sure your dream's alright.
Long ago, I made a world of your story,
Mending the bones of life with the fictive.
There was hope for love and bundles of glory -
Wishes, shining stars, and silver morphemes.
Oh now, Fairytale, my friend, don't you worry,
I was never really that naive;
Even though I take reality sorely,
I know that life shan't be confused with the dream.
The Pirate King's Fall
Avast! Ox-eyed scud dot the horizon -
You poor soul, what are you doing here?
A xebec ship, brim-full of disaster,
Sails ravenous, raped by the breeze.
The spar is wracked,
Fore and main masts are shattered,
Looks like you've been whipped in a whorl.
The clouds spit you out as a dew-thundered bastard -
Welcome to the angry side of the world.
Oh, I so want to help you!
Those spindrifts were a warning,
White horses frothing in heated herds.
Dangerous sagging and hogging,
Was there no isle worth lodging?
Milky minds need a dry patch or two.
You're sinking, lost in the mire
(mad, exhausted and tired)
Grab my hand, stanchion, and heave to!
Where was your anchor when the wild winds were whining?
Where were you when the whipstaff fell away?
While you were steeped in bumboo,
A tempest knuckled on you,
Full of ghosts,
Full of rage...
Be dodged! Clamp to the coaming!
There's no time for delay -
Won't you call it a day 'till it's through?
From the Mind of the King
The sky was raked with starry moonlight rafters,
Brimming with secrets on a silver platter;
The sky called order and the secrets were poured,
As vanilla-honey dripped in her laughter.
My mind was never wrapped in crimson and clover,
But she truly is something that you can't ignore.
I didn't want to steep her so in my crisis,
When you skip the brink, intentions get snowed.
After all…after this…it's just known…
But it was all a long time ago.
I knew I was done for when she gilt me with grace,
Greedy with the cup when she gave me a taste;
I knew I was over when the cup hit the floor,
And sorrow clouded her honey-dewed face.
My heart was never really cruel, not when sober,
And hers is something you simply can not store.
I didn't mean to make her a goddess,
But when you take a Fairytale's drink, it shows
Well, if you had ever tried it, you'd know...
And it was all such a lifetime ago.
(more to come...)
