Easy to make lentil soup
Ingredients:
1 carrot, grated
1 onion, chopped
1/4 cup of red lentils
oil
1 tea spoon paprika(or of your taste)
1 can of chopped tomatoes
a splash of tomato pure(optional)
1-2 stock cubes, preferably vegetable or chicken
500ml water(you might need more depending on how tick you want your soup)
thyme, salt and pepper for taste
Utensils:
grater
potato peeler
chopping board
knife
can opener
sauce pan
something to stir with
sieve
Steps:
1. Start out with gathering all the things you need.
2. Peal the carrot and great it. It's not supposed to be finely grated tho.
3. Peal a and chop the onion.
4. Put the sauce pan on the stove and purr in some oil. When warm add the grated carrot and chopped onion and lower the temperature. Fry till the onion starts to soften but hasn't gotten any color. Sprinkle in the paprika and fry for a little while.
5. Put the lentils in the sieve and rinse them under cold water then add them to the onion and carrots.
6. Now it's time to add the vegetable or chicken stock cube/s, depending on if you want to keep it vegetarian or not. The caned tomatoes and some of the water does in now too(the tomato pure can go in now too if you want to use it)
7. Let the soup simmer for about 10 minutes but check it at times so it wont burn, add water if needed.
8. Check if the lentils are soft if not let it boil till they're soft then add thyme, salt and pepper.
9. Time to eat
Hints from the chef:
If you want to put in more spices in to the soup then I recommend chili, garlic and cumin, I sometime add a bit of sugar to neutralize the acid in the tomatoes. You can also add vegetables to the recipe. The vegetables should then be grated if they're hard as the carrot(potatoes should be chopped tho) or sliced if you use other kind of onions. The vegetables I usually use is celeriac, parsnip and leek
You can actually use pretty much anything in the recipe so try it out and make it your own. As my mom usually says "recipes are just guide lines of what you can make"
