The Bride
“You look magnificent…” Snowgust gasped, staring at her older sister.
“Merci,” Windfire smiled. She knew that she looked perfect. She dressed exactly as Nightshade had asked her to. She was wearing a red dress with a blue cloak over her fiery hair. She was wearing long sleeves to cover the cut that nobody but him knew about.
“Yeah, but it never took much to make you look amazing,” Lillybreeze complained.
“Luckily,” Windfire sighed. Her sisters were dressed in fancy red gowns and wearing silver necklaces and earrings. “Which means…” she walked over to her bed and settled there, inviting her sisters to join her.
“What is it?” Snowgust asked.
“You know what this means, don’t you?” Windfire breathed.
“No, what?” Lillybreeze asked.
“There is a truce starting tonight,” Snowgust answered.
“With the Gerard family?” Lillybreeze gasped.
“Well, seeing that I’m marrying Nightshade, I’d assume so,” Windfire said cattily.
“You know that if any of us tried something like that mother would kill us…” Lillybreeze murmured.
“Not if she knows why I’m doing it,” Windfire winked.
“She knows you’re in love with Nightshade?” Lillybreeze hissed.
“No,” Windfire covered her sister’s mouth. “She thinks I’m doing this to kill off his family…”
“But what are you going to do when it comes down to killing them?” Snowgust asked.
“He and I have a plan. Don’t worry about it,” Windfire assured her.
“What all came out of your alone time?” Lillybreeze asked with a sly grin.
Windfire glared at her sister, “None of that, I assure you!”
“Well, I’m just saying that you seemed more comfortable with him than you do with anybody else,” Lillybreeze whispered.
Windfire blinked, “Well, he’s very pleasant…”
“She’s not referring to the subtle handholding and such,” Snowgust cleared her throat.
“Well, what then?” Windfire was dumbfounded.
“I thought it would be obvious,” Snowgust said with surprise. “You two were kissing like you were about to lead him to the sheets…”
“When?” Windfire asked defensively.
“Before you fell,” Lillybreeze replied.
Windfire glanced between her sisters. “You’re serious?”
“You don’t remember?” Snowgust asked.
“We both blacked out. We remember me following him into the room and I remember him waking me after I fell…” Windfire whispered.
“You still hated him before we left and we came back and we find…that,” Snowgust muttered.
“That doesn’t make any sense…” Windfire shook her fiery locks. “Maybe one of his brothers cast a spell on us?”
“No, they were disgusted, too,” Lillybreeze assured her.
“The last thing I did was…” Windfire blushed, “Somehow, for some reason…we held hands and…”
“And what?” Snowgust asked.
“I saw many visions of him and his thoughts…” Windfire clenched the blanket.
“So you two were reliving a dream of his…” Snowgust guessed.
“He and I have had the exact same dreams,” Windfire said sheepishly.
“Why were you dreaming about sleeping with Nightshade Gerard of all people?” Snowgust asked.
“He’s very good-looking and charming, and he’s a warlock so it’s one of those taboos,” Windfire blushed.
“Ew,” Lillybreeze shuttered.
“With how you were leading poor Aquashade on, you have no room to talk…” Snowgust teased.
“I did no such thing,” Lillybreeze declared triumphantly.
“You had the poor boy eating from your hand,” Snowgust continued.
“And how did you and Flameshade get along?” Windfire asked.
Snowgust looked thoughtful, “I like him but I don’t know if it’s mutual or not.”
“It’s mutual,” Lillybreeze whispered.
“You think?” Snowgust blushed.
“You’ll get to ask him at my wedding,” Windfire said dryly.
