Lavish for the Losses
“And who have you lost to the guillotine, Lord Gerard?” Achille Thomas asked, sounding haughtier than he should.
Nightshade tightened the red ribbon around his neck, “Alex Delacroix was a close family friend. My father grew up with him, you know,” Nightshade glared at the viscount and left his company with Windfire at his side.
“You were right,” Windfire smiled as she embraced her husband. “Humans are very predictable,” she snickered.
“Indeed they are, my love,” Nightshade replied. He took a sip of the red wine and did a silent toast to the Deveraux heir, Geoffrey who was also wearing a red lavish ribbon around his throat. Geoffrey mirrored him from across the room. “I’m going to kill him myself,” Nightshade said with a smile.
Windfire smiled, “Was he in your original plan?”
“No, but I’m throwing him in, now,” Nightshade led her to his acquaintance, the next lord of their brother coven. “Bonsoir,” Nightshade said with a smile.
“Ah, Lord Gerard,” Geoffrey smiled, bowing once, “But I am not familiar with your bride.”
“This is my wife, Windfire,” Nightshade explained. Geoffrey stared at her for a moment, his warlock eyes studying her witch aura. “She’s the head witch of the Deverill coven. Perhaps you’ve heard of her?”
“Your wicked family’s deed precedes you,” Geoffrey spat.
“My family has done nothing wrong,” Windfire said evenly. “I did not know Lord Delacroix well, but I do mourn for his untimely and wrong death,” Windfire sighed, looking very distraught.
Geoffrey studied Nightshade instead, who was pretending to sooth her faked emotions. “How could you marry such a…wretch?” he spat.
“She’s not a wretch, she’s just a black sheep from her family,” Nightshade whispered as he stroked Windfire’s hair.
Geoffrey gasped, “What did you do?”
“I’ve done nothing,” Nightshade said evenly, smiling at his ally.
“Then you are planning something!” Geoffrey accused.
“I am just planning on heading my coven as my father had,” Nightshade replied. “Well, we’ve said our peace. Let’s be off, shall we?” he led Windfire away from the disturbed and distraught warlock. Windfire looked over her shoulder and smiled at Geoffrey who gritted his teeth.
