Paint

Paint can be used more effectively once you understand the material attributes of paint and how these attributes affect its behavior. Ignorance in this area makes it harder to learn, understand, and control your colour materials. So when you buy paint, look at the pigments they use in the tube/bath, not the colour name. They use the name to try and sex it up, what you want to know is what's in it, then you can compair brand names and find out what the diffrence is. This will help you buy the right type. But remember, the more expensive they are, the better they will be. Try using the cheapist and the most expensive, you will feel the diffrence.
Do not buy to many colours!!!! You will only need a few. I own hundreds of paints and I only use a few of them. Using to many colours will bring disharmony to a picture, Make it muddy and over complicate things. The wiki below might help when choosing colours and create a Basic colour chart.

Paper

When it comes to choosing a paper for watercolour, there are many things to think about. The wide range of weights and surface textures of paper gives the artist an opportunity to explore different effects simply by using different papers.

• Hot Pressed - very smooth
• Cold Pressed - semi rough
• Rough - a rough surface.
