Pirate Party Banned from Social Networking Site

The crappy German Facebook-copycat site banned the Pirate Party's account:
http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-party-banned-from-social-networking-site-090501/

Here on Elftown we generally don't allow parties or groups to have accounts as it's unpractical. But if there is a good reason to do it, like for example to use the sitebuild-feature to make a website, they are quite welcome to do so. Otherwise a wiki-page is the way to go.

Level 5 and counting...

The new plague (known as the Swine influenza, but it has nothing to do with pigs, so it's a really stupid name) is now declared a level 5 plague by the WHO. In plain English that means deep shit problem!

The questions now are how many of the ones infected will die and how many will be infected before a vaccine exists (which is said to take 3 months unless someone finds a way to speed it up). To the later, the prospect isn't looking well. New York is already infected and from there the plague is probably on its way to hundreds of other places already.

I should probably go and buy one of these masks before the panic comes here.

Digging...

I dug through my diary today to see if I could find some old friend of mine or so. Found some, but people tend to be pretty far away, and I doubt they are so interested in reconnecting.

But somehow it feels important go go through the things that have happened and say hello to long forgotten friends. But it took some time.

Developing Battery Replacement Infrastructure For Electric Cars

<URL:http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/19/magazine/19car-t.html?_r=1&pagewanted=all>

Pretty interesting article about how electric cars should be using batteries that can be swapped very quickly at the "gas"-station.

The main thing is that electricity is much cheaper than diesel even if you produce the electricity with solar-cells in Alaska (where they can get much cheaper hydro and wind power, but anyway).

Unfortunately Shai Agassi doesn't bring up the possibility of recharging the car while driving on the highway.

As you might have heard, the copy-monopolist mafia has won the first round in the charade that is called trial about http://thepiratebay.org/

As a result the Swedish Pirate Party (Arrr!) has gotten more than 3000 new members today and it's up to 18727 members now, making it the fifth biggest party:

https://pirateweb.net/Pages/Public/Data/MemberCountHistory.aspx (Current numbers of members)

Good news for the party as there is an important election to the EU parliament this summer. The party usually get about 13 times more votes than it has members so this means that it will get 6-10% of the votes and enter the parliament. The pirates outside of Sweden and Somalia seem to be too badly organized to become a power factor just yet.

There are 18760 members now, by the way.

I guess I should do one of these stupid things. Copied from a private entry:

Is there anyone you would like to just appear at your front door right now?
Yes!

Who was the last person you hugged and why?
Judith because I hadn't seen her for many months.

Who was the last person you said 'love you' too?
I generally don't speak English... But I guess I said the meaning to Lilo.

What are your views on vegetarianism?
I don't have any.

Are you single/taken/heartbroken/crushing/confused?
Single.

Do you like to take walks?
Sometimes.

Last time you laughed really hard?
I don't remember. It wasn't too long ago, but not very lately.

How late did you stay up last night?
Stupid question!

Excited for anything?
No.

Last three things you had to drink?
Milk, water and Bulgarian home-made plum vodka (Just a little).

What is your current annoyance?
That I'm lazy and write this crap instead of programming.

Where was your default picture taken?
At the university.

What were you doing at 12:30 this afternoon?
Getting ready for breakfast.

What would you name your future daughter?
Lindonia...

Do you miss anyone?
Yes.

Do you sleep with the door open or closed?
Lilo don't let me have the door closed. The flat-door is locked, of course.

You good at hiding your feelings?
No, but I try.

Are you wearing socks?
Yes.

What's on your mind right now?
"Why am I dong this?"

Are there any stressful situations in your life?
Not too much.

Who do you go to when you need to talk about something important?
Depends. [Sunrose] or maybe my ex-girlfriend if it's love problems.

Have you ever been taken to the emergency room in an ambulance?
Yes, but I wasn't the one who had tried to commit suicide...

Where did you get the shirt/sweatshirt you're wearing?
It's an Elftown t-shirt! I ordered it.

Ever stayed up all night on the phone?
No. I don't see the point of long phone talks.

Have you hugged someone within the last week?
Yes, a few.

Will this Friday be a good one?
I'll be on a train, so I doubt it will be great, but it will be OK and nice to see my parents and some relatives and get a break from everyday routine.

I've been programming Javascript all day. Now I have a somewhat working slideshow function for the photo-pages here on Elftown. All that is needed is to have a page with images inside of boxes and you'll get a slideshow-button on top of it.

The RegExps took some time to figure out, but now I got what I need at least. Well, almost.

Crash!

Bloody nothing works! Elftown crashed today because my stove is so broken that it wipe out the electricity in my entire flat when turned on. And the fine shiny UPS that should save Elftown didn't work even for the minute it took me to turn the power on. I hate UPSes! They don't work when they are needed half of the times. Their batteries obviously have to be checked all the time, and how to do that isn't clear. Changing them involves closing the server down anyway.

If there could be UPSes with capacitors, I would love to have one, even if it can't sustain power that long. As long as it doesn't suddenly stop working after 2 years!

I think about 7 postings were lost and maybe some house-updates are lost. Worse is that 30 hours of diary notes, guestbook notes and wikicomments have been lost (Some sort of accident in the recovery.). The wiki-changes should be OK though.

Braindead anti-capitalists strikes again

Activists stormed the closed Royal Bank of Scotland at 15 o'clock today in a protest against capitalism or something. The thing is however that the bank is now crashed and socialized! So the anti-capitalists are basically attacking an anti-capitalist trophy.

I do understand that people get angry when there are people making loads of money during the current crises, but then target people who actually make loads of money (in a bad way)! Go and get those people (and companies) who get huge sums for holding rights to dead authors' book, patents and make money from fighting monopoly fights in courts instead! These are the people who really steal from the poor and give to the rich, and strangle innovation and culture in the process.

But I guess it's easier to attack closed banks than yelling "Bloody Thieves!" to Metallica when they are on stage. Chickens!
