This one gets a bit ranty, so be careful with it :P

Have you ever come across a wikipage where the discussion has been about scripture being rationally ripped apart by people who don't believe in it? People saying things like "in the Book of Blahblah it says here that everyone should kill one bunny once in a blue moon, that just means that Christianity is really evil and unacceptable and immoral and that's why I'm a satanist - brb, gotta go drink the blood of virgins" etc... ? Or not even that extremely, but you know, in that general negative, non-faith way?

Well I have. Several times. I've learned to avoid them because those people do not seem to understand that you can read scripture and you can read scripture, but then again: they don't want to understand it either. They just want to annoy - they are like little mosquitoes of satan. Not advocates of him, just little annoying groupies that you don't want to talk sense to but just want to swat in the back of their heads. Anyway. Recently a friend of mine made a wiki for mutual understanding and support between people of the faiths islam and christianity, because the two come from the same source, yet politically keep clashing. And he asked all muslims and christians who just want the two faiths to live in harmony to sign up. Then something interesting happened. People kept coming saying "I'm not a Christian nor a muslim, but I support this, can I join?" o.O It's like... wtf? Can't you support the idea without joining a wiki you don't fit into? Oh yes that's right, joining a wiki means you don't really have to do anything, do you? When someone asks you to make the world a better place, you can just say "oy, I support the cause, don't gripe at me." It's like a thin person joining the weight watchers, just to support the cause and people who want to loose weight. Because if you're not a muslim, you don't have to walk there out in the street and be afraid that someone's going to make the connection between your faith and terrorism. You don't have to cringe everytime there are news about corrupt paedophile priests or raging anti-abortion fundamentalists attacking someone... and then keep praying that the Lord will forgive them.

Ah well, my friend accommodated them, making two lists: members (for Christian and muslim users) and affiliates (for other supportive users).

Now two of the affiliates started to say stuff like "yeah, I don't agree with everything Christianity offers" and I could see where the discussion was headed *points at beginning of post* and I asked if they'd mind taking the stuff somewhere else because the wiki is not meant for stuff like that. And now they're hoping to making a subwiki of it. o.O Why can't they just make their own wiki for that? Why does it have to be related to this wiki? Why do these pagans have to ruin the fun for everybody else, why do they always do that? >.< It's like where ever you turn you have to accommodate them, even in completely non-paganism related wikis? I don't go to random non-Christian wikis and demand that my faith be somehow included. (Well, I know why they do that actually, and it's not all of them clearly, it's just the 'recent' ones who think it's cool and controversial to be pagan and thus in order for people to see exactly how cool and controversial they are they feel the urge to flaunt it everywhere. In short, it's the playgans, to steal a term).

and now my beloved Viking pointed a thing that allows ET itself fix IE6 transparency issues! <3 IE6 shall overcome, whether hedda implements it or not: if he does, we are granted equal status - if not he affirms his prejudice against us and we have grounds to ignite a full-on browser-pride war to make our claims heard!

About ActionScript again: *sings to the tune from Nightmare before christmas*
"What's

Seriously though. What is

seems to be doing exactly what I want my code to do, but it bothers me that I don't understand it.

Right, so you know I'm making this dissertation on humour. And I've made a few interesting observations that I just need to get out of my system (but can't put in the essay itself since it has to be objective or whatev).

Yesterday I was reading this book on Google Books (<3), a self-help book on relieving stress, and humour was recommended in one chapter. And this author had listed different types of humour, and wrote about sarcasm: "this is the lowest kind of humour, it is to be avoided since it doesn't relieve stress, it creates it." And I had to take a time-out to go "wtfomglmao". All humour can be used to meet both social and anti-social ends, sarcasm isn't particularly evil - only if you don't understand it.

Also, near all of the texts I've read so far begin with "humour is such an interesting field for research yet it has been examined very little." In fact, there is so much research about humour by now that it's getting a bit annoying that all the authors make this observations (even ones from recent literature, an essay from 2005 stated that too).

And another text I was reading today was proposing a practical application of their theory in the current debate of political correctness. And it was going on about racist/sexist jokes and whether they should be banned because of what they might make people think about the persons sharing the joke (so if a white man is telling a racist joke we can assume he really is racist). And two words kept repeating in my head: "Read. Freud. Read. Freud." I hope my telepathic message reached the authors. See, Freud (being all cool and strange and inverting everything) seemed to reckon that a person who is offended by an anti-semitic joke is more likely to be unconsciously anti-semitic, as opposed to someone who is enjoying an anti-semitic joke simply because it is a funny play on incongruity and stereotypes, and not because he really is all anti-semitic inside.

Some of you have been prodded before about this, so I must warn you: it'll be painful:
But vote in 30 books, people! *prod prod* I know for a fact that you can all read, and I'm pretty sure that you've read or heard of at least some books on that list - so vote! I might have to sulk at people who don't vote...

I apologice for anyone reading this who already has voted. I lob you.

On a very specific note: Meri! Pahus! Vote!!

Unrelated edit: My tea smells of my dog. Either I miss my dog very much or this cold has done something very strange to my smell-receptors (=nose).

Again it happened. A message from a member got me rambling about something semi-related:

I have a habit of being very mirror-like when it comes to internet personality, and maybe real life personality as well (it's not as easy to observe your own personality in reality as it is online). What I type is often toned according to the other people around, to reflect what I see of them. So talking to someone sarcastic tends to make me more sarcastic too, and someone really happy and bubbly makes me seem like that too, and a serious conversationalist makes me appear like one. Strangely though, this seems to work only with people who are on the same kind of social level as me. I seem to turn the mirror away when talking to "higher ups" like teachers, or parents, or even [Hedda]. Which means I'd be a terrible comedian, afraid to poke fun of the powerful. o.O

This is just a theory though (and not a very original one at that, either - was it Jung who said we all wear masks in different social situations?) The reason I'm observing it and so interested in it is because I'd lke to be able to make my art practice work like that too. A lot of artist's work is about sharing an experience - if the experience is universal enough the viewer will understand and learn from it. I'd prefer my art to be less about me (again, not an original idea) and more about the viewer entering the work to reflect him/herself from the work in order to learn about him/herself.

Apparently I can talk about myself sometimes. Fancy that. o.O
(The message-sender seems promising. A new nonner, mayhaps...)
