I was reasonly asked:
"What it really means to be a real Christian?"

This is what I found, today in the world it seems as though anyone can walk around and claim to be a Christian. You just have to go to church and be a good person. I feel that just because a person spent their life growing up in a Christian home with godly principles and morals and the ability to recite a ton of scripture verses and pray deep powerful prayers does not make one a Christian. Though it not my place to judge them that between them and God.

It still bothers me to look around and see people wearing this Christian "nametag", but that is not who they really are. I have seen "Christians" in church who go out after the Sunday service is over and lead a completely different life. They were like a chameleon, changing colors to adapt to the environment around them. I've known "Christians" who drank alcohol to get drunk, had premarital sex, told lies as if it were no big deal and did just about anything imaginable that would please their flesh. They were basically living to fit in with the world the last six days of the week and being in one word, hypocrites. However, as I said before it is not my place to judge them that is between them and God.

Nevertheless, I have still seen many people live their lives so they can blend into both the Christian and secular world. Let me tell you right now that it is not possible. There is no way you can fool God and "play both sides of the game."

There is a verse in the Bible, Revelation 3:15-16, it says, "I know you well-you are neither hot nor cold; I wish you were one or the other! But since you are merely lukewarm, I will spit you out of my mouth!"

I believe that God would rather us be enthusiastic about being a Christian or enthusiastic about living in the world. God does not play games when it comes to being a Christian. We are either living for Him or we are not. We cannot be in the middle.

Here are some more verses to think about:

John 1:5-6, "This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth."

Philippians 4:8, "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things."

1 Corinthians 10:13 , "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

John 14:21, "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me."

I John 2:14, ""God's" word is so steady in you. Your fellowship with God enables you to gain a victory over the Evil One."

Romans 12:1-2, "So, here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."


So, a Christian is someone who loves God and does what He commands. Where are those commandments? They are all in His word, the Bible. That means that a Christian is also someone who reads their Bible, meditates on it, believes it and does what it says. Now, that doesn't mean that a Christian can pick and choose what commands they want to obey and break. They don't just obey some of it, but all of it, out of love for God.
