UNFLEDGED

Like an autumn leaf, you tumble
Softly, swirling in a maelstrom
Of cotton cumulus.

Plucked from your perch you gracelessly dive,
No wings to help with your descent
Towards oblivion.

Tarnished are your good intentions,
Slapped against the sky, painfully colliding
As waves against a rocky shore.

No longer will your dawn chorus
Resound across the heavens, melodious
And sweet to virgin ears.

You have fallen,
And you shall not rise
From the gravestone of your destiny;
Forever more an
Unfledged angel.
