Impact

In this humid state, I lay.
Blank. Empty. Hollow.
I am a well run dry
And the bucket has hit the bottom.
Empty bottles betray my path
On these long nights alone.
My mind is a funeral parlor,
Cluttered with condolences
Of loved ones lost and
Of lives forged from
Sirens and a car crash.

Flight

Birdlike, you watched carefully
As I moved closer
One painstaking step at a time
Your head was tilted to the side
Your eyes behind glasses, large—owlish
You blinked
Several times
I almost stopped breathing, froze
Didn’t make a sound
Your legs twitched nervously,
Your body restless, on edge
You trilled once, twice

Then you spread your wings
And soared so beautifully
I couldn't find the heart to mind

Collegiate Thoughts

It’s been years since I truly knew who I want to be
Lost in a whirlwind of hope and lost opportunities
Weighing my losses on the battlefield I once danced on innocently as a child
Before the tainted blood-covered grass stained my flesh
I wish to abstain from the flesh
Cleanse myself of the blood from that long-forgotten war
When adulthood cruelly slaughtered innocence
And laid its rusty sword at my corpse’s paled feet

So this is it?

I cast a wry glance over documented evidence
Of the past, a memory to last
Mixed feelings rich, and dense
Each hold true, a higher expense

Painful to remember, such happy times
When I was young, my youth in suited climes
My lover, my soulmate, in uniform proud
I was the one, waved hardest in the crowd

There cast a watchful eye
Over precious cargo, that came from I
My children play
Unaware of that wrongful day

And they say that ignorance is bliss
Well my love, that face I will always miss
Had I not known, I would have always had hope
But that is cruel, fate dealt by god, forever condemned to hope

You gave me gifts, from your love
I will go on, forever bathed in your memory, for I am tough
You lived on in my little ones
And through them, you will live to see the sun
