The Company of Gods

Fireflies over the palmettos
Remind me that I am my own.
       This is my element,
       This dark of night -
Stars razzle-dazzle as I take flight
                          Foot-to-peddle,
                          Round and round,
Gentle rains come cool me down.
Who says that I ride alone?
     A choir in my mind:
       Miami Horror, Killers and blondes,
             Odysseys of oddities -
                  And the gods are calling,
                       It feels like home.
We dance on pavements along the coast -
Me, that Jupiter and his Juno.
             I ride for them,
               Caress their backs,
                   Tingle their spines,
                             Roam and roam;
And they respond in windy whispers,
                Rolling thunder,
                Lightning cracks .
I feel them in my bones
As we race Neptune’s salty herd,
                 Hooves pounding out the east,
                 Vibrato in my chest.
      We’ll take this town,
          Tuck the corners,
                  Reel it in -
                  Feed it to the ocean,
                              Bound to drown…
In this pulse that’s flowing, singing
        Reigned by mixed emotions
           Like those sweet palmettos swaying
             Haloed by fireflies saying:
                    This is heaven,
                  Where you’ve gone
                     In the company of gods
                        And dreams,
                        Legends.

A Pleading Heart

There's something about home I seem to love and hate
Can't wait to get out but I can't seem to escape
And all I seem to do is circle 'round the same old drain
I gotta world of hurt, can you dull it with cocaine?
Nope, I tried it out, hurt me more than you can know
Til I found my skeleton at the bottom of the bowl
Now it's dancin' all around, n' scarin' kids at night
Scarin' mom and dad with its monstrous appetite

Where's my skin run off to?
Why is it so thin now?
Everything you say just needles its way in now
There's so much love inside,
Can't seem to get it out,
And you won't hold my hand
While I figure this shit out

Can't hold a rolling stone, can't cup a shadow either
But are we ok now that we've had ourselves a breather?
I miss you when you're here, but more when we're apart
Now I'm left to wonder if you gave me back my heart
Well I don't want it now, you're the one who figured out
it was broken, patched, and blackened by every hair-brained doubt
The blackest part of me is oozing everywhere
I'd like to bleed it dry just to show you that I care

Where's my skin run off to?
Why is it so thin now?
Everything you say just needles its way in now
There's so much love inside,
Can't seem to get it out,
And you won't hold my hand
While I figure this shit out

The Moon's Lament

Many a lover swears by my light
Or offers me up, to their lady's delight
But what, for I, could another bring?
I am the moon
You can't give me to me.

Many a couple meets under my glow
And embraces as the Autumn winds blow
But what if I, up in the sky, grow cold?
I am the moon
I am much too large to hold.

Many a babe is brought into this world
As my lonely form over miles is hurled
But what of my daughters? What of my sons?
I am the moon
And I have no one.

Rain catcher

I can't seem to
catch my thoughts they are
falling down a spiral,
lifted by a tornado

Landing in soil, like seed
germinating at first,
only to explode into a forest:

Dense, diverse, dripping,

Full of life and I see
how lucky I am,
surrounded –
embraced by this beauty,

By you.

Your confession started this
wind that took my mind;

Your fall for me and
our mutual understanding and
the love from those we've chosen to love
– a network of all I ever wanted:

Rational thinking,
understanding,
and feelings, abundant as the rain

In a forest.
