Character Name: Aaron Ilk

Age: 26

Appearance: Aaron’s physique hasn’t developed much from his first year out of medical school, nutritional input was levelling about zero at that point as his grant was running out and he was stuck eating freeze dried food almost every meal. This leaves him quite thin, almost wimpy; his height of 5’6” doesn’t leave him as the most imposing character either. He has mousey brown hair, which he believes is already receding due to stress. His eyes are a dull green, and usually focused in a squint.

Clothing: A pair of blue scrubs, top and trousers, covered by a tweed jacket for warmth and protection. He also wears an anti-infection surgical mask over his face to protect against air born contaminates. He carries a medium sized, red cross marked back-pack with him at all times. His shoes are trainers, the good kind so they don’t wear out as quickly.

Personality: The desire to help people in Aaron’s career choice has always mixed with his strange fascination in the wounds a person can inflict on themselves or others. While he always helps those who have been injured by their careless blundering, he always tends to linger around the wounds a little too enthusiastically; while wearing the proper gloves of course, even if you can’t sterilise the equipment well doesn’t mean he wants to stick his hands into someone’s filthy guts. And although he insists that he doesn’t have an endless supply, he does seem to hand out painkillers very sparingly. He does generally try and get on with people, and he never inflicts harm to them on purpose, he just finds the sight of an open wound hypnotic.

Preferred Weapon: With a lack of aim and any real skills with a firearm, Aaron prefers not to fight. If necessary, he likes to wield a sawn-off shotgun. He doesn’t need to aim and tends not to miss. At close quarters he does have a rather nasty array of blades at his disposal.

History: Aaron had always been interested in people’s injuries, but he tended to get it a bit wrong. He was the one who would attempt to staple the legs back onto the spiders when the other boys had had their fun and left the twitching corpse alone. He’d then tend to examine the remains of the spider, trying to figure out why all of its insides were now out. His parents always said that it was his destiny to become a doctor, Aaron had always secretly thought that he just enjoyed looking at the insides of spiders.
It got a bit more annoying when he wound up in university studying medicine; it rather undermined the difficulties of getting a place, and all the studying he’d had to do in order to get there. It was several years later that he finally managed to leave university and get an intern at a distant, successful hospital called St Madock’s. It was a few states away, but he finally had an internship so he moved over there at once. He wasn’t the brightest in his class, so getting a place like this was a big turn up for him. A few weeks after arriving he realised why they were so eager.
The infection was deeply spreading by now, even if no one really knew what it was, it was spreading. Hospitals like St Madock’s were losing staff by the day and they were hiring just as fast to keep up with the rush; due to being a first year intern and a not particularly bright one Aaron was given the duty of organisation and control of patients.
Like almost all hospitals, the outbreak happened in the heart of St Madock’s. Before people knew what was going on half the staff were infected, panic spread, and that wasn’t helped at all by Aaron running out the door at the first warning that the infection was a little more than dangerous, still wearing his scrubs. Aaron didn’t feel guilt about what he had done that day; the entire hospital went down with that infection, he was one of the smart ones and got out. So far he’s been surviving the apocalypse by moving from one group to another; everyone is sick after the apocalypse. Some with just cuts, gangrene, or a gaping wound or two if he’s lucky. Others are from the infection, and they are quickly finished off before they turn. He’s even managed to get a few good supplies by convincing groups of people that they are worth the risk to get them.

Other: His insistence on not removing the mask exposes his small phobia for germs; another attraction he had towards the doctor’s profession was their habit of sterilising everything. He seems to be getting more paranoid lately however, as before he only wore it during encounters with the undead in close proximity. He also has a small habit of examining zombies from afar, calling out a particularly notable subject if he should spot an interesting wound.
