<center>Act 1
Scene 1
(School has ended and all the children have left except for Olympia and Boyce. The two of them are sitting back to back, not knowing that either of them exist. The two of them are sighing deeply. Mr. Dolore is looking out his window, sighing as well.)
Olympia- *sigh*
Boyce- *sigh*
Mr. Dolore- *sigh*
All three-*sigh*
(Boyce stands up.)
Boyce- Why do dreams have to be so far to reach?
(The scene shifts to his house where he is eating and his father is sitting across from him.)
Father- What are you looking at oh son of mine?
Boyce- Nothing father dear for I am just dreaming.
Father- Dreaming oh son of mine?
Boyce- Yes father dream, I am dreaming.
Father- Listen to me oh son of mine, dreams can’t come true.
Boyce- This dream is a special father dear, is like none I had before.
Father- What is the dream oh son of mine?
Boyce- There is a lovely girl father dear with skin like brown sugar.
Father- Brown sugar son of mine?
Boyce- Yes, brown sugar! Then there is a man whom is upset father dear.
Father- Upset oh son of mine?
Boyce- Yes, very upset father dear. Then there are two mystical beings whom I can not make out!
Father- Oh son of mine, these dreams are false! You shall never meet such a girl with brown sugar skin or a very upset man with two mystical beings! Stop this dreaming at once son of mine!
Boyce-bends his head) Yes father dear, oh yes father dear.
(The scene shifts back and Boyce sits down.)
Boyce- *sigh*
(Olympia gets up.)
Olympia- Imagination ruins dreams which then ruin hope.
(The scene shifts again to her house she’s outside, swinging on a swing and her mother is in the garden.)
Mother- Tell my darling daughter why do you swing that way?
Olympia- Because beloved mother I am using my imagination.
Mother- Listen to me my darling daughter, imagination can’t come true.
Olympia- This image is my beloved mother, is like none I had before.
Mother- What are you imaging my darling daughter?
Olympia- I see an adorable boy with skin like white sugar beloved mother.
Mother- White sugar my darling daughter?
Olympia- Yes, white sugar. Then there is a man whom is upset beloved mother.
Mother-Upset my darling daughter?
Olympia- Yes, very upset beloved mother. Then there are two mystical beings whom I can not make out!
Mother- Darling daughter of mine, your imagination is false! You shall never meet such a boy with white sugar skin or a very upset man with two mystical beings! Stop this imagining at darling daughter of mine!
Olympia- Yes beloved mother, oh yes beloved mother.
(Olympia sits back down.)
Olympia- *sigh*
(The light shines on Mr. Dolore.)
Mr. Dolore- Those children, poor children. That remind me of my children, my poor children.
(The scene shifts once more to his house where he is with his children.)
Children- Tell us daddy dearest. What are you doing?
Mr. Dolore- I am using my imagination to dream my loved ones.
Children- Listen to us daddy dearest, imagination and dreams can’t come true.
Mr. Dolore- But this dreamful image, my loved ones, is like none I had before.
Children- What are you imaging daddy dearest?
Mr. Dolore- I see a strapping young boy with skin like white sugar my loved ones.
Children- White sugar my daddy dearest ?
Mr. Dolore- Yes, white sugar my loved ones. Then there is a pretty young girl with skin like brown sugar.
Children- Brown sugar daddy dearest?
Mr. Dolore- Yes, brown sugar my loved ones. Then there are two mystical beings whom I can not make out!
Children- Daddy dearest ,your imagination and dreams are false! You shall never meet such a boy with white sugar skin or such a girl with brown sugar skin with mystical beings! Stop this imagining at daddy dearest!
Mr. Dolore- Yes my loved ones, oh yes my loved ones.
(The scene goes back just to him.)
Mr. Dolore- *sigh*
All three- *sigh*
Mrs. Someone- Ha ha ha! Time for me to work my magic!
(A ribbon appears on the stage. It flutters around Mr. Dolore who bats it away thinking it is a bug. It goes over to the children who bat it away also. Then it makes a strange noise. The children look up at it. It flutters around them.)
Olympia- What a pretty ribbon! I want to for my hair!
Boyce- I want to for my kite!
(both of them stand up, race to the ribbon, grab an end of it and begin to tug. Mr. Dolore sees them fighting so he runs out to stop the fighting.)
Mr. Dolore- Children, stop at once!
Olympia- I saw the ribbon so there for its mine!
Boyce- I saw the kite tail so their for its mine!
(Both children pull on it at the same time and suddenly there around two more ribbons, one green, one yellow. The first ribbon flutters away. The two other ribbons suddenly slip out of the children’s grasp and flutter after the other one.)
All three- Oooooooooooo!
(The ribbons flutter, entwine, then let go letting out two more colorful ribbons.)
All three- Oooooooooooo!
(They flutter around, join together and suddenly make a fan that is floating in the air.)
Boyce- Nice trick!
(The fan begins to fan all by itself. All three of them approach it. Olympia taps it and suddenly a hand comes out. It waves to her and she waves back. It beckons her forward.)
Mr. Dolore- What does it want?
Olympia- I think its stuck.
Boyce- Well pull on it.
(She grabs the hand an tries to pull but no luck. She tries again but fails. She about to try again but Boyce stops her. He moves her out of the way, spits in his hands, rubs them together and begins to tug with all his strength but still the hand does not come out. He tries to tug again but Mr. Dolore stops him.)
Dolore- This is a man’s job!
(He tugs on the hand but still can not make it come out. He motioned for the kids to grab his hindquarters and pull. The children get into position.)
Dolore- One.
Kids- Two.
All three- Three!
(They pull on the hand which suddenly comes out with the rest of its body. The kids and Mr. Dolore go flying backwards. The man walks over to them and helps them up one by one.)
Olympia- Thank you um…………..sir.
(The man pulls a card out of her ear and ushers her to read it.)
Olympia- Patter Ran the Fan Man. Quite a title you got there.
(The nods a continues to fan himself.)
Boyce- Well if this is going nowhere I’m going leave.
(He turns to leave but sees a green fan with his name on it, floating in the air. It floats above him to the fan man. He takes it and starts fanning himself.)
Boyce- Mr. Fan Man. I do believe that one is mine for it has my name on it.
(Fan Man smiles and begins to laugh silently. Two other fans appear, one is purple which has Olympia’s name on it and the other is blue with Mr. Dolore’s name on it. The Fan Man jumps in the air and takes them. He starts dancing around and then finally stops. He opens an imaginary door that lets out fog. He then waves and jumps in.)
Boyce- Hey! (He runs over to the door.) Come back here! (More fog comes in.) Uh oh!
(He starts to run but is in vain because the fog seems to be sucking him in.)
Mr. Dolore- Hold on sonny!
(He grabs Boyce’s hands and Olympia pulls on Mr. Dolore’s back. Their attempts are in vain and then they are suddenly sucked into the door.)
