America's Response

This poem was written in the week after the Sept 11th attack.

Our flag has seen great grievances and many deep, deep sorrows,
Still it stands up tall and proud, yet it weeps for the lost out loud.

Nothing has ever happened so tragic, yet we don't respond with hate,
We seek justice and nothing more, and we have pride in this great trait.

The terrorists sought to thwart us, but look at what they have done,
We are stronger now than ever before, as we stand united as one.

We say to the terrorists, vile ones, you made a great mistake,
When you attacked America, you put your lives at stake.

(Originally "vile" was printed as "evil", but I mis-typed it when I submitted the poem.)
