Chapter 3- Classes for the Smart
Riley’s Point of View (POV)

Three days later Elliot, Max, Adam, Lain, and I were all sitting in the school cafeteria talking about anything we could think of. Well Max and Elliot were mostly glaring at each other.

“Are they always like this?” Lain asked staring at the two.

“Sadly yes. I don’t know why, but they have always disliked each other. If they could get over their differences they would realize that they’re a lot alike.” I snorted at Adam’s comment.

“The day that they make up is the day that I finally go up into an attic.” I had a deathly fear of going into an attic. I mean you could fall down the latter, fall down the roof if you stepped on the wrong spot, and I could break the roof. Nope never going up.

“What do you mean make up?” Leave it to Adam to notice word choice.

“Riley if you say anything I will tie you up and lock you in a attic with a clown.” I shuddered, I hate clowns.

“Fine Elliot, I wont say anything. However I do think it is a stupid reason.”

“This coming from the girl who starts a fight if anyone touches your computer.” Max said. I was starting to get creeped out. Neither one of them, when they spoke, moved from glaring at each other. The last three days have really been grating on their nerves.

“Hey my laptop has my life on it. I would die if anything happen to it”

“I honestly don’t know what questions I should ask first.” Lain said while shaking his head.

“You get use to it after a while. My family and friends say I have that effect on people. Just asked the question that bothers you the most.” I said.

“Okay. What is on your laptop that is so important?”
“Pictures of my friends and family, my personal diary, personal e-mails, photos that I have edited, and most important everything I have ever written in my entire life is on the hard drive.”

“What do you mean what you have written?” I never got to retort to Lain’s question because some guy with dreadlocks ran into the cafeteria and rushed up to our table.

“Josh is something ?” Adam asked what they guy got up to us.
“Ummm.” The guys eyes shifted from Elliot, to Lain, till it finally reached me. “ The red stampede has arrived.” Adam’s eyes widen and Lain choked on his drink.

“Adam I think you should go with him. It could get really out of hand.” Lain said once he could breath. I was totally confused at this point.

“I’ll see you girls later.” And with that Adam and the random guy dashed off.

“Why do I get the feeling that we are missing something.” Elliot said.

“Don’t worry about it. So what are the two of you plan on doing for the rest of the day?”

“Well we have meeting with the principle today. Something about classes and extra activities. It should take up most of the day, than Elliot and I have plans to see some old friends.” Elliot snorted. “Elliot!” I shouted at her.

“I know, I know. Don’t worry I promised you that I would behave.” I gave her a hard look and sighed when she looked back at me with a ‘ what I agreed with you.’

“Give me a break Riles.” I glared at her for a few more minutes then got up.

“Come on we don’t want to miss our meeting.”

“Riley is right Elliot. Principle Trinity is not known for his patience.” This time both Elliot and I snorted. “What did I miss this time?” Lain said. For some reason my uncle didn’t want people knowing that he was the principle.

“Don’t worry about it Lain. One day the world shall be explained to you.” As I skipped away I heard Elliot laughing behind me. Since I was skipping towards my uncle’s office not watching were I was going I ran into someone. I ended up rebounding of the guy and landing on the floor.

“Hey you all right?” The guy asked. From my place were I was sprawled on the floor I suddenly opened my eyes, recognizing the guy’s voice. Once I saw who it was I jumped off the floor and tackled him.

“Conner!”

“It’s good to see you to Riles. However could you please get off of me. I do need to breath.”

“Sorry. What are you doing here? I thought the five off us agreed to met later.”

“You mean that you don’t know?” I looked at him in confusion.

“Know what?”

“I go to school here. Actually majority of all the O’Neil males have gone here.”

“Great. That means I have to deal with Damion.” I grimaced

“Give my little bro. a little slack.”

“We just don’t get along. And what do you mean you go here? You are a freshman in college.”

“Heferson offers classes for college students as well. It makes it convent for the high school students who take college level courses.”

“Nice to see you O’Neil.” I turned around to see Elliot with Lain and Will walk up to us.

“You to Hamilton. How are you Elliot?”

“ Peachy. So what were you guys talking about?”

“Just about how the high school offers college classes.”

“Hey Riley that maybe why Trinity wants to talk to us.” Elliot said. Suddenly my eyes got wide. Elliot and I looked at each other.

“Were late!” We both said at the same time and took off down the hallway. Ten minutes later we were standing in front of an angry principle and heaving.

“Glad that the two of you could show up.”

“We said we were sorry. We lost track of time.” I pleaded to my uncle a few minutes later..

“There is nothing we can do about it now. As for the reason I called the two of you here we need to talk about your classes and school actives. To start of with Riley we are having some trouble putting you into English, Math, and
History classes.”

“What’s the problem?”

“Well you have taken pass the high school English and Math classes that any school has ever offered. As for History, you have gotten decent grades, but you have only taken high level American History classes. You have finished the requirements, but we can’t let you take AP American History because you haven’t taken European History.”

“For history can’t I just take European History this year and take American History next year?” I asked.

“No because next year you have to take AP European History.” I sat and thought about it, then an idea hit me.

“How about this? I take AP European History this year. It is not like I can’t pass it, and I have all ready taken AP American History. At my other school you didn’t need to take European History before it. As for Math and English don’t you offer college classes at the school.”

“Only seniors are allowed to take college courses; however, I think I might be able to make a exception for you. Not to mention that the classes that are not at college level this year will be next year. It should work.”

“Good.” Some times I am to smart for my own good. “I do have one question though.”

“What is it?”

“Will I be able to take psychology with my schedule?”

“I don’t see why not. You should have at least one or two electives. As for Elliot you have a slight different problem. You were supposed to take AP Chemistry with Riley, but your math level is lower than needed.”

“What does that mean?” Elliot asked.

“It means that you should take a lower science, but you have all ready taken them and AP Chemistry requires that you have pre calculus, but you haven’t taken it.”

“Can’t she double up. I mean take algebra two as her math, but take pre calculus as an elective. That way she can still take AP Chemistry. She will obviously have to study Chemistry more than everyone else.” I suggested.

“I think I maybe able to manage to get her to do so. Elliot do you think you can handle the course load.”

“I most likely may have to get a tutor or some other type of help with the math, but I think so.”

“I can help you.”

“Riley don’t kid your self. You know that you have to much on your plate this year to help me. You could graduate this year if you wanted to and still be able not to take intro. class in college.”

“So?” I said. I saw that both my uncle and Elliot shook their heads with small smiles.

“Elliot I will pick out an excelling math student to help you out. I will tell you when I have someone to help you.”

“Thanks.”

“So uncle was there anything else?”

“One more thing. Both of you have to do after school activities. The point of have you come to this school was to see how the boys reacted. That means you have to be apart of all areas of the school. What the school board has decided is that you two can have one activity together and one separately.”

“So both Riley and I can do one together, but then the second one has to be by our selves.”

“Yes.”

“Wonderful. How to you expect us to do that?” Elliot muttered. To me it didn’t seem that hard.

“Elliot it isn’t that hard. I play soccer, so that can be my
individual activity. And before you start complaining about me being a girl and playing with boys, uncle, I was the only girl soccer play on our school team. I think I can handle it. For the joint club the school has a design club and a newspaper. We can do both.”

“Riley what am I going to do about finding a club to do on my own?”

“Elliot do you have an special hobbies.” My uncle asked.

“Not really.”

“That’s not true Elliot.” I said to her.

“I think I would know if I had any hobbies.”

“You love to take pictures. You are always carrying your camera around”

“The school does have a photography club and class.” My uncle said.

“I could really do that?”

“I see no problem with it. I am sure Ms. Deceur Would have not problem with it.” Elliot let out this squeal. I smiled at her.

“I am very happy for you, but we need to get going. I don’t want to be late.” I said stopping Elliot before she glomped my uncle.

“Opps, sorry Riles.” Elliot said sheepishly.

“Whatever, lets just get going.”

“Have a good day girls.” When we walked out of the front office we saw Adam talking to Conner. Conner looked almost exactly like Damion. The only difference was that Conner was a bit talker and his hair was a bit lighter red.

“Well they looked annoyed.” Elliot stated. I took a closer look, and saw that she was right. Neither one seemed very happy. It was actually weird to see them talking. Usually they ignored each other. I never knew why though.

“I wonder what is wrong.” We walked over to them and they stopped talking as soon as they saw us. “Is everything okay?”

“Everything is fine. Hey do the two of you want to catch a ride with me to met up with the others.”

“Sure.” I said. “Were did you park?”

“It’s the truck in front of the school.” I walked out side and found the truck. When I tried to open it, it was unlocked. I sat in the car for a few minutes until Conner and Elliot got in the truck.

“Malissa said that she and Zach would met us at the front gate.”

“Then lets get this show on the road.”

Elliot’s Point of View (POV)

Three days later Riley, Max, Adam, Lain, and I were all sitting in the school cafeteria talking about anything we could think of. Well Max and I were glaring at each other with intense hatred.

“Are they always like this?” Lain asked staring at Max and I.

“Sadly yes. I don’t know why, but they have always disliked each other. If they could get over their differences they would realize that they’re a lot alike.” Riley snorted at Adam’s comment. The guy was hot, but at times I just wanted to hit him.

“The day that they make up is the day that I finally go up into an attic.” A flicker of annoyance past my face.

“What do you mean make up?” I really wanted to hit him now.

“Riley if you say anything I will tie you up and lock you in a attic with a clown.” She hated clowns and I would use any thing against her to keep her quiet.

“Fine Elliot, I wont say anything. However I do think it is a stupid reason.”

“This coming from the girl who starts a fight if anyone touches your computer.” Max said, never looking away from me. I will win this staring contest. The bastard will not over come my woman fury.

“Hey my laptop has my life on it. I would die if anything happen to it” Riley said.

“I honestly don’t know what questions I should ask first.” Lain said while shaking his head.

“You get use to it after a while. My family and friends say I have that effect on people. Just asked the question that bothers you the most.” Well she was right, Riley’s family did believe that she confuse everyone she talked to.

“Okay. What is on your laptop that is so important?”

“Pictures of my friends and family, my personal diary, personal e-mails, photos that I have edited, and most important everything I have ever written in my entire life is on the hard drive.” That caught Max’s attention, and he looked away, I won. Note to self, ever need black mail for Riley, hijack her lab top.

“What do you mean what you have written?” I never got to here Riley’s retort because Max started to draw a weird shape on my hand.

“Josh is something ?” I vaguely heard Adam say. I snatched the marker out of Max’s hand and threw it at him. It left a vertical line on his forehead.

“Ummm.” The guys eyes shifted from me, to Lain, till it finally reached Riley. I got the feeling that what ever this was about was going to upset her. “ The red stampede has arrived.” Adam’s eyes widen, Lain choked on his drink and that had no effect on Riley.

“Adam I think you should go with him. It could get really out of hand.” Lain said once he could breath.

“I’ll see you girls later.” And with that Adam and the guy, named Josh, rushed off, to the unknown.

“Why do I get the feeling that we are missing something.” I said, getting the feeling that Riley and I were being left out.

“Don’t worry about it. So what are the two of you plan on doing for the rest of the day?”

“Well we have meeting with the principle today. Something about classes and extra activities. It should take up most of the day, than Elliot and I have plans to see some old friends.” Riley said, and I
snorted. “Elliot!” She shouted at me.

“I know, I know. Don’t worry I promised you that I would behave.” Riley gave me a hard look and sighed when I looked back at her with a ‘ what I agreed with you.’

“Give me a break Riles.” She glared at me for a few more minutes then got up. It wasn’t my fault that I didn’t think much of our so called ‘friends.’

“Come on we don’t want to miss our meeting.”

“Riley is right Elliot. Principle Trinity is not known for his
patience.” This time both Riley snorted with me. “What did I miss this time?” Lain said. Trust me, both Riley and I knew that her uncle wasn’t the most patient. We had tested it enough.

“Don’t worry about it Lain. One day the world shall be explained to you.” Riley said then skipped away.

“Damn that girl is random.” Lain said bewildered. I just laughed at him. “I’m serious. I don’t think I have ever met any one like her before, or
ever again.” I snickered. “What?”

“Does some one have a crush?” He turned a bright red.

“Of course not.” I thought as much.

“Come on, we should go catch up to her. Who knows what type of trouble that Riley can get into on her own.” Max said and, to my satisfaction, was still trying to wipe away the line on his forehead.

“All right.” Lain said. When we walked out into the hallway we, or at least those of us who were paying attention, noticed Will trying catch up with us. “Hey Will. How did it go?” How did what go?

“Fine. Adam managed to get everyone to calm down. So what are you guys up to.”

“Looking for Riles, she ran off on us.” Max said.

“She didn’t run off on us.”

“Then what would you call it Elliot?” Max said with a hint of annoyance.

“She skipped away.” Now he was angry. Yay for me.

“Okay.” Will said slowly.

“Don’t worry about the two of them Will. They have been up their throats all day.”

“Oh shut up.” I told him. We walked down the hall till we saw Riley talking to some guy. The close we got I noticed it was Conner. Conner is surprisingly one out of three of Riley’s ex boyfriends.

“It’s O’Neil.” Lain said bitterly.

“Lain be civil.” Will said.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“Conner and Lain really don’t like each other.” Max filled in for me. “However, Lain you really do have to be civil, as Will put it,. Conner and Riley are good friends, and unless you want to piss her off be nice.”

“Fine.”

“Nice to see you O’Neil.” Lain said when we walked up to the two.
I watched as Riley turned around to see who was talking. She looked a bit surprised.

“You to Hamilton. How are you Elliot?”

“ Peachy. So what were you guys talking about?” I didn’t dislike Conner, but he just wasn’t me favorite person. Especially how he hurt Riley when they were going out.

“Just about how the high school offers college classes.”

“Hey Riley that maybe why Trinity wants to talk to us.” I said in thought. Suddenly my eyes got wide. Riley and I looked at each other.

“Were late!” We both said at the same time and took off down the hallway. Ten minutes later we were standing in front of an angry principle and heaving.

“No because next year you have to take AP European History.”

“Good.” Riley’s brain was going to kill her one of these days . “I do have one question though.”

“What is it?”

“I don’t see why not. You should have at least one or two electives. As for Elliot you have a slight different problem. You were supposed to take AP Chemistry with Riley, but your math level is lower than needed.” I was broken out of my thoughts of torturing Max when I heard my name.

“What does that mean?” I asked I was very confused.

She will obviously have to study Chemistry more than everyone else.” Riley suggested. That sounded like a lot of work.

“I think I maybe able to manage to get her to do so. Elliot do you think you can handle the course load.” I really thought about it. If I pulled a couple of all nighters, and got some help I should be able to.

“I most likely may have to get a tutor or some other type of help with the math, but I think so.”

“I can help you.” She was crazy.

“Riley don’t kid your self. You know that you have to much on your plate this year to help me. You could graduate this year if you wanted to and still be able not to take intro. class in college.”

“So?” She said. I started to shake my head With the classes she had there was no way she would be able to help me. She is going to have five times the work load I am going to have.

And before you start complaining about me being a girl and playing with boys, uncle, I was the only girl soccer play on our school team. I think I can handle it. For the joint club the school has a design club and a newspaper. We can do both.” Riley was an awesome soccer play. So good that she was allowed on the boy’s team, which I was surprised she didn’t add.

“Riley what am I going to do about finding a club to do on my own?”

“Elliot do you have an special hobbies.” The principle asked.

“Not really.”

“That’s not true Elliot.” Riley said to me.

“I think I would know if I had any hobbies.”

“You love to take pictures. You are always carrying your camera around”

“The school does have a photography club and class.” I loved, I mean really loved to take pictures.

“I could really do that?”

“I see no problem with it. I am sure Ms. Deceur Would have not problem with it.” I let out this squeal.

“I am very happy for you, but we need to get going. I don’t want to be late.” Riley said stopping me before I managed to glomped her uncle.

“Have a good day girls.” When we walked out of the front office we saw Adam talking to Conner. I took a closer look at the two.

“Everything is fine. Hey do the two of you want to catch a ride with me to met up with the others.”

“Sure.” Riley said. “Were did you park?”

“It’s the truck in front of the school.” She walked out side, while Conner,
Adam, and I watched her leave.

“Well she got moody fast.” I said. “Any how we should met her out side before she gets pissed.”

“Hey Elliot.” Adam called. I turned towards him. “There is something that you should know.”

“What?”

“Damn it. Adam don’t you dare tell her. This is something that Riley has to
be either told first or find out on her own. She will feel betrayed if we tell Elliot. I hurt her once like that, I wont do it again.” I was so confused, but impressed with Conner.” Conner stormed away, and I ran to catch up with him.

“What am I missing.” I asked him. Conner just shook his head.

“I can’t tell you, but be there for Riley okay. She is going to need you when the shit hits the fan.”

“Is it that bad?” He stopped and looked at me. He looked sad

“Yea it is. It is bad enough were she might actually cry.” I paled. Riley didn’t cry. Not at all. When we got to the truck Riley was all ready inside. When we got in the car Conner spoke up.

“Malissa said that she and Zach would met us at the front gate.”

“Then lets get this show on the road.” Riley said. I got the feeling that things were about to get really bad, and I didn’t know how to stop it or save my best friend from getting hurt.
