Chapters 1-3 (Liosalfar Forest)
Chapter 1
I woke with a start. I heard people yelling some where with in the palace. I looked around trying to recognize wear I was. What I noticed was that I had been sleeping on books, meaning I was in the library. Which was dark, implicating the time of day it was. Most likely I had missed the party, not that I didn’t mind since parties are not really my thing. I preferably like to have a juicy book or scroll in a cozy room. As a hobby, I try to find out about as much information evolving Alveion as I can. I am very similar to a scholar, except I put what I learn to practice.
Suddenly I heard the yelling from before. I stepped out of the library, with as much stealth as I could master, which wasn’t very much, and evasively went down the stair to see what was going on. When I reached the bottom I saw that my brother, father, the King, and two men, who were defiantly not elves, at the bottom of the stairs.
“Your Highness we should kill these intruders. They are probably Dark Elves trying to find out information to use against us.” I snorted, a little to loudly, at my brother, Adeous’s, comment. However, sadly I was over heard. Stupid elf ears, I thought to my self.
“Who’s there?” The Elfin King of the light court asked. I slowly stepped from the shadows of the stairs to reveal myself.
“My lord.” I bowed, for that was expected of me.
“Alexandra why are you not at the party?” My father said in his monotone voice. For my entire life this man, my so-called father, not once showed that he ever cared about my well being.
“Yes Alex, why are you not at the party?” I glared at the speaker. My brother was worse than my father was. He had taken the only thing I had ever truly cared for. I, unintentionall
y, rubbed the bruise that was, forming, on my wrist. Adeous was a violent person when you went against his wishes. I had learned that the hard way, unfortunately, but I was still one of the few with in the Liosalfar Court who refused to give in to his impetuous ways.
“Alexandra would you please answer your father’s question.” The King asked.
“I was in the library doing research, but it seems I fell a sleep. I
was woken by commotion going on down here.” I said facing the King.
“Very well. Let us handle these intruders then I would like to speak with you. The queen and I had been planning to track you down for awhile.” The King told me. I just nodded my head, bowed, and then stood back from the men, letting them continue their judgment.
“As I was saying my lord we should obliterate these Dark Elves.” Adeous said in a sneer.
“They are not Dark Elves.” I said from my spot pushed up against the wall.
“How would you know that sister dear? Have you ever seen one?”
“They are not Dark Elves because their eyes are blue and red. From what I have learned, since I actually read, is that all Dark Elves genetically have black and brown eyes, unless of some strange circumstance. Similar to how elves of the Liosalfar Court have light color hair that can not be changed. Plus they don’t have pointy ears. Even you know that all elves, light and dark, have pointy ears.” I watched as the fury gathered in Adeous’s face. “Have you even asked them why they are here? They might have come to speak to the King and Queen, and happened to come on a night of a party.”
“Well at least it seam that someone has some sense of reason.” Said a voice that sounded like a woman. Everyone turned to the stairs were the Queen of the light elf court stood. “Alexandra it seems that the men of our court are a little slack these days.”
“I am just trying to do my part your Highness.”
“What have I told you about calling me your Highness.” I grinned at her theatrics. I loved this woman. Since my mother was murdered when I was young my aunt has been the closes thing to a mother that I have had.
“Sorry Aunt Victoria”
“Your forgiven Alexandra, but take these two men and get them cleaned up. Once they are more presentable then they shall be question.”
“Yes Aunt Victoria.”
“My lady do you think it is smart to leave her alone with these strangers.” Adeous said with a calm voice; although, I knew he was furious.
“Well Adeous you never seemed to care about her well being before. She seems to have mysteriously acquired another bruise. What did you do this time Alexandra?”
“It appears to be that I hit my wrist on a bookshelf.” I said with a smirk.
“Well that might actually be believable. Seeing as how you spend all of your time in the library. You might want to come out one of these days. The sun is quite nice I hear.”
“I am quite content, but I will think about. I better get the two Draken cleaned up. Could you please let them go Adeous? I would like to fulfill the orders I have been given.”
“How did you know we were Draken?” The one with blue eyes said.
“What is your name?” I asked honestly curious.
“Drake, my friend’s name is William.”
“Well Drake, all Draken have eyes that when they are angry or irritated go into slits like a cat. Since I know you are not a were-cat because it is a full moon tonight and you have yet to turn into a cat, the only other possibility of your eyes going to slits is if you were a dragon. Your obviously have a human from so you must be a Draken. It is all about the process of elimination.” I said like it was the simplest thing in the world, and to me it was.
“Alexandra why don’t you take them up already.” My aunt said through her laughter. I didn’t get what was so funny, but I had orders to fallow. By the powers of sibling rivalry I would see it through. Once I saw that Adeous had untied the two men now known as William and Drake I urged them to fallow me. Once we were away from everyone else I stopped and turned to face the, my eyes glittering with anticipation.
Chapter 2
“So what have you come to steal?” I watched as their mouths literally drop.
“Come on you shouldn’t be surprise.”
“How in the world did you…?” William asked, incapable of finishing his sentence. I just rolled my eyes.
“Why would anyone come to this place? No one ever to the Liosalfar Forest unless they want something. I have spent my entire life trying to fight the life in the Elfin Courts. Trust me when I say that no one comes here unless they have too. So I ask again what have you come to steal?”
“Why don’t you wait until later to find out. I believe that that your aunt gave you orders.” I turned around to see Fee, a Dryad and close friend. Her real name was Fiona, but if you call her that she would most likely whip you with her wicked, awesome vine whip.
“I was curious, but you’re right. I have orders to fallow.”
“That is a wise decision; however, you seem to have miraculously acquired a new bruise since I saw you last.”
“It’s nothing. So why have you come to Liosalfar Forest? You don’t usually bring your flaming auburn hair, green eyes, and amazing long, legs here unless you have an important meeting about the treaty between our species.” Fee is an elder for the Dryads. After being about two hundred and seven years old you are considered to have enough experience to share your wisdom, which people actually listen to.
“Your aunt asked for my presence, something about a favor. She was supposed to speak to me after the party, but it looks there have been a few interruptions.”
“I’m sure that you will still be able to talk to her when all of this is over. For now you are just going to have to enjoy our hospitality.” Implying she should go to the party.
“Thank you Alex, but parties are not my individual idea of fun. I am sure I would be happier in your extensive library. For elves you have a remarkable variety of scrolls on Dryads.”
“I have read a few of the scrolls, but I haven’t been able to read them all. I hope you enjoy. Now will the two of you please continue to fallow me.” I said goodbye to Fee then parted ways. I took the two Draken to the west wing, were we keep all of the guest who come to the Liosalfar Forest.
Liosalfar is another way to say light elf, meaning that if you translate it would be called the Light Elf Forest. It’s the same thing for the Svartalfar Forest. Svartalfar means dark elf, so the name of the forest is Dark Elf Forest. You have to be a genius to figure out, I hope you are noting my sarcasm. “When we arrive to the room the two of you will be staying in you must wash your selves off and change into clean cloths for your meeting with the King and Queen.”
“Is this place always so dreary?” The one named William asked.
“It wasn’t always like this. It once use to be a place filled with laughter,” I said sorrowfully
“What happen?” The other Draken asked. I closed my eyes and thought back to the time when all was well. It almost brought tears to my eyes.
“When I was a little girl the queens sister was murdered. However, the murder was never to be found.” I rubbed my wrist as I said this. Oh, I knew who had killed her.
“The Queen is your aunt, would that mean that it was your mother who was the killed?”
“Yes. I never got to know her, but from what I have been told she was a woman who brought laughter to everyone. She was a shining star who you could never get enough of. I loved her very much, but as I said I was very young. There was nothing I could have done. All I have know is my father and brother.” I said the last sentence with bitterness and disdain.
“There is more to it isn’t there?” Drake stated, it was a statement not a question.
“There is always more then what there appears to be.” I opened the door to their room so they could go through. “Finish as fast as you can. I don’t like to keep the Queen and King waiting for long, and they don’t like to be kept waiting” I saw that both of them nodded their head. As I waited for them to change I thought about my mother. It was true that she died when I was young, but I remember every detail about her. From her snow-white hair, very similar to my own, to her compassion. She was kind and caring, and because of that she loved with the very fiber of her being, which was what killed her in the end.
A short while later both of the men were finished and we headed towards the throne room. We came upon large golden doors with little designs of elf children running along the borders, I swung the door open to reveal the King, the Queen, my father, and Adeous with his pet, Mayberry
“I see you finally decided to show up.” Adeous said with his malicious tone. If you haven’t noticed by now my brother and I don’t really get along with each other. His pet is a fairy that has the rare ability to change from a human shaped size to a three-inch fairy size, a rarity among her kind. She follows him every place that he goes, like a personal stocker.
“I apologize. I ran into the elder Fee as we were walking towards their room. I am sorry to make you wait.”
“Did she tell you why she was here?” My Aunt asked with a twinkle in her eye. If you knew my aunt that twinkle meant that she was up to something. You never know what she could be thinking, and usually those involved never enjoyed it.
“Just that you had asked her to come to court for a favor you wished to ask of her.”
“ Very well, now down to business. Why have the two of you come to Liosalfar Forest?” I never said that my aunt wasn’t blunt, because let me tell you something my aunt is more than plainly blunt, she is indispensably blunt.
“We came here because two week ago we had an intruder who tried to steel an important relic from Hydra City. The relic is one out of five pieces of an Amulet. We wish to collect all of the piece before whom ever tried to steel our relic manages to steal them all.” Drake said with authority.
“I want all of the information. I know there is more then what you have told me.” My aunt ordered.
“Why should I tell you anything? How do I know that once I give you the information you want that you wont kill my friend and I by hanging us from our feet over man eating bunnies.” Drake said in a very serious tone. It took everything I had to not laugh, and I was doing a poor job at doing so. I looked over to my right and saw that William was looking at his friend has if he had lost his mind and had a death wish.
“I promise you we won’t hang you over man eating bunnies.” My aunt said with a smile.
“Have you heard of the Dimension Amulet?” William said, interrupting Drake before he spoke.
“No.” I whispered so softly that I was surprised when everyone in the room turned to look at me.
“Then you know what it is.” Drake asked.
“Yes, I do.” I closed my eyes and whipped the few tears flowing from my eyes. I opened my eyes to look William straight in the eye. “People who have tried to collect the pieces of the Dimension Amulet previously have all died. I have known several people who got themselves killed by looking for it. Please don’t do this. To many lives have all ready been taken.”
“Alexandra how do you know about this Dimension Amulet?” My aunt asked me.
“Since I have the gift giving me magic more powerful than most and since I spend much of time looking over scrolls and books people have come to me for help. In consequence I have done some research on the amulet. Every single person who has come to me is dead. I don’t want to see any more people being killed for the sake of gaining power. My mother knew more about it than I did and look were it got her. I am tired of seeing a trail of dead bodies. Power is not a good enough reason for people to die.”
“How many?” My aunt asked me in a soft voice.
“To many for my liking.”
“Alexandra I want a number.” She said with more force.
“Five people who were seeking it out and six who happen to have important knowledge about the amulet. That makes eleven all together. Some of them were my close friends.” I saw my aunt’s eyes bulge, and for a good reason. I have trouble-trusting people, which cause me to doubt a person’s motives. Hard to make friends like that, but I don’t really have the best relationship examples. My father emotionally abuses me, while my brother physically abuses me. You see were my problems come from. Besides my aunt, Fee, and two to three people I don’t have many friends.
“Alexandra take Drake and William back to their room. When you are finish come to my room. I want to talk to you alone.” She emphasized the alone part.
“Yes, Aunt Victoria.”
“My lady as her father I would like to be there when you speak to her.”
“No. I will not allow it. I want to speak to her on my own, with out interference”
“She is my daughter, making her my responsibility”
“A daughter who you have neglected for years. Do not mock me Edward. I rule here not you.”
Chapter 3
I grabbed the two men’s and pulled them out of the throne room has fast as I could. “Move it. You don’t wont to be in the same room when they go at each other’s throats. Trust me.”
“Yes, trust a girl who sends people to their deaths. Don’t you agree Alexandra?” Adeous said. “You always were one full of secrets sister dear.”
“Adeous don’t push me. There is a reason why you have yet to kill me. Don’t forget that brother dear.”
“Remember sister dear that I could kill you if I wanted.” By using
my magic I flung him into a wall and conjured a deathly flame to threaten him.
“You forget I am more powerful than you.” I let him fall to the floor and moved, walking away from him.
“Was that necessary?” William asked.
“Welcome to my world.” We didn’t talk at all as we walked down the place halls. When we arrived at their room no words were spoken between us as the men entered their room and shut the door. It took me about ten minutes to get to my aunt’s room from the west wing. At first I was scared to open the door. What could she possible have to say to me? Even though she has been there while my mother has been gone she, is still the Queen. She will not treat anyone better than the other.
“You do know that you are going to have to go in.” I looked to the side to see that Fee was leaning on the wall looking at me,
“I’m just not sure what she is going to tell me.” I tilted my head, confused at why she was laughing at me. “What is it?”
“Have you done anything wrong?”
“No.” I said befuddled.
“Then you have nothing to worry about. One who has done no wrong is in the right.” I had know idea what she was talking about, which happens often. I had the feeling it was one of those things were you need to be older to understand it. She must have seen my confusion. “It means that if you didn’t do anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about.” I just nodded and open the door. I saw that my aunt had been talking to one of the scholars.
“Ah, Alex. You can go now Daniel. Alex, Fee please sit down.” I sat in the chair that appeared out of no were. My aunt had perfected the art of summoning an item out of thin air.
“You asked to see me Victoria.”
“Yes. I originally asked you to come because I wanted you to take Alex under your wing and teach her your ways. However in seems that circumstances have changed things for now. Alex, since you know a substantial amount of knowledge about this world, and the Dimension Amulet I what you to travel with the two Draken and help them find the rest of the pieces. Don’t look surprised because with your knowledge and their protection we might be able to stop whom ever is behind this. Fee I would like it if you would please go with her and look after her.”
“Why?” I heard Fee ask next to me.
“Who ever broken into Hydra City will come to Liosalfar Forest looking for a piece of the amulet. I want this taken care of before that happens. When all the pieces have been collected then we will decide what action to take. For now I want no one to know of this. Alex do not even think about complaining because you are not being given a choice. You will do this because with your knowledge you can stop people from dying. Fee the question is are you willing to do what I ask?”
“I’ll help since I happen to all ready know that a piece of the amulet is at Fairy Heap and because I care about Alex.” I sat there trying to absorb all of this new information. I was being ordered to go in a journey that I had seen other people die trying to do, not to mention Fee knew were a piece of the Amulet; an amulet that has been lost for over thousands of years. I’m not sure if this was irony or just a powerful god or goddess really mad at me, either way I’m screwed.
“Is there any way out of this?” I asked with my eyes closed
“No, you need to believe in your self. You have every thing it takes to do this right.” I heard a male say behind me. I turned around to see William and Drake.
“He’s right, you can do this. If your insight can keep us alive I would tie you to me.” I was starting to realize that Drake was a very random person. You never can tell what is going to come out of his mouth next.
“ Fine, I will go with out putting up a fight.” I mentally scorned my self for giving in so easily. “Were should we start our adventure?”
“Why not Fairy Heap, Fee did say that there was a piece of the amulet
all ready there.” My aunt suggested.
“That’s a great idea. Plus I know someone who might know were we can find another piece the amulet.” Fee stated
“Very well you leave at down. Good luck to you all.”
As I walked back to my room I thought about the task set in front of me. Why, now of all times, would someone be trying to gather the amulet? I was in just a deep thought that I wasn’t watching were I was going, causing me to run into someone, who in returned dropped what they were carrying
“I am so sorry. I should have been watching were I was going.”
“Yay you should have.” I sighed.
“Hello Mayberry.” Her physical appearance matched her name. Her hair was as green as a May morning, and her skin was the color of the ripest berry.
“I don’t see why the master is so obsessed with you.” She squealed then stormed off. I picked up what she dropped, which I noticed it was one of my mother’s necklaces. It was the one she broke up into two pieces, giving me half, which was around my neck.
“Adeous, what are you up to?” I said out load, walking to my room, clasping the dropped necklace.
The next Morning we were all ready to go. It was around that time we were about to go that I really got a good look at the Drakens. Both were above six foot, lean, broad shoulders, slim, and had black hair. The only difference was their eyes, were William had a crimson red, while Drake had a bright blue. I wondered what the colors of their eyes meant, but I wasn’t given the chance to ask because the stable hand brought out our horses. No one said anything as we readied our things, and I bathed in the silence. Once we all had our items together we started on our journey, the first stop being Fairy Heap.
