Christopher Paolini: Brisingr review

I honestly thought this would end the adventures of Eragon, until I found out there was a fourth part coming. *sigh*

In this third part, Eragon visits the dwarves and hangs around in different places trying to stay alive for the final battle against the evil king Galbatorix - who actually speaks his first words in the series!

Okey, so why only one star?
First of all, I gave the second part two stars because of the improved narration.
Narration was still okey, but nothing else had improved.
Now that I think of it, nothing really happened in this book. Some new turns of the events concerning the plot, some fighting, pointless jabbering, some more fighting and then disappoinment: why so many pages of this?

The world Paolini has created is quite alright, points for that for such a young writer.
But it seems like he created the world with much enthusiasm and realised that he wanted to tell a story situating in the world. So all the effort went to creation and not to the characters.
Paolini really tries to deepen the characters, but sadly I can't find anyone of them interesting. Eragon is still so annoying that I just wished the book would end.

And the battle scenes... it looks like Paolini has watched a way too many action films and tried to copy the things he saw on the screen to the paper. And we all should know that what works on the screen, doesn't work same way in a book. (The Tarantino-like scene of Eragon making a cut with his sword, staying in the spot waiting how first the one half of the enemy falls down and then the second half falls... I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.)

I have read quite a lot of fantasy (not nearly enought yet though), but for the first time I don't feel like finishing the series. So far it just has been pure pain.

Perhaps I can only recommend this to young people wanting to start writing fantasy as an example of please don't do it like this. It can look alright book if you've never read fantasy before, but after reading so many better writers' works, this doesn't touch me a single bit.
