Dan Brown: Deception Point review

This was the third book I read from Dan Brown and I do have to admit that I liked Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons better. But then again I also do have to admit that Brown knows how to write a a catching thriller.

Deception Point is about conspiracy and politics in United States. Nasa has found a meteorite buried deep in a huge iceblock in the north and several scientists are hired to check it out. But nothing seems to be like it was originally thought and this leads to escapes, chases, political plotting and finally the big conspiracy is revealed.

Brown has a good skill on writing a story. He knows his facts and can lift the suspense to its maximum - and then start the next chapter in different scene leaving the reader wanting to know more. (Which is also somewhat annoying, when you do want to know what happens to the character you find the most interesting.)
Brown also wants to make the bad guy the most unlike one, that in almost any case the reader would be surprised. If you're good guesser and know Brown's style, you do know, who the bad guy is.

Brown has also his weaknesses. He has a tendency to try to make really intelligent women characters, which is not bad. The problem is that I don't find them believable. They are always lacking something, and even though Brown tries to make all the main characters quite versatile, I still feel like they're somewhat caricature-like in their genre.
(The most annoying part about the female character in this book was that she didn't remember whether the polar bears where on the North or the South Pole.)

Dan Brown's books are entertaining and that's what they're made for. They're not big literary classics, but offer good time and a bit excitement.
