Glossary

These are terms and more in-depth information within the End of Days RP. Please keep this page under watch, as it will be updated regularly.

The Guide - The Guide is the mysterious leader of the sprawl and one of the most respected authority figures of the wastes. Though normally aligned with the MLA, the guide is mostly a civilian authority and, for the last 4 or 5 years, he's garnered a massive following that even the MLA could be envious of. Ironically enough, no one can claim to have ever seen the Guide. Some say he's a tremendously powerful mutant, others than he is the reincarnation of Charles Xavier or even Magneto. Part of the reason the Guide is so popular is that he seems to be able to conform to everyone's ideas of him. The only ones who can truly claim to know him are the speakers, a half a dozen people who serve as a liaison between the MLA, the people of the sprawl and the Guide himself.

The Speakers - The Speakers are people who relay the Guide's orders, tasks and advice. Half a dozen are known, but there may be others. Out of the six known speakers, one liaisons with each of the largest MLA factions, Artie Hong with the New Brotherhood, Lisa with the column, Sgt. Reuel with the Iron Teeth and Doc. Mullen in the South Sprawl. The other two, Mr.Falk and Ruby Rose are said to wonder the wastes, stopping in the sprawl only occasionally.

The New Brotherhood - the New Brotherhood is one of the most extreme militant factions of the MLA. Taking after the Brotherhood of mutants, they are an unruly but powerful bunch, composed entirely of mutants. They claim to follow The Scrap King, but in reality work as a loose association of gangs, paramilitary squads and other fighter types. They are based around The Plank.

The Column - The Column is the largest faction of the MLA and the most moderate one. They are violent and powerful, conformed of mutants and human alike, the Column has an odd sense of honor and order to their chaos. Just like any part of the MLA, the Column is subdivided into dozens of smaller factions, pulling in different directions but still engulfed in the overarching goal of deposing the government.

The Plank - The Plank is the only connection between the island of Manhattan and the continental US, including the wasteland of Salem and Westchester. After the major bridges were destroyed, mutants built a massive abomination out of rubble and destroyed cars to attempt to escape New York City, but they were met by Company snipers posted on the other side. At the time, it was said that 'only dead men walked the plank' after the old pirate adage, Though the company withdrew after the Quarantine Wall was set up, the name stuck. Nowadays The Plank can be crossed if one can avoid the New Brotherhood and the numerous raider groups populating the ruins.

Salem - Salem, or what remains of it, is a town on the very edge of quarantine space, hugging the quarantine area wall. Salem only admits human residents, and mutants only pass by it when brought into the wastes, or with an X-men ID badge. Unlike most of the wastes Salem is well supplied, serving as the main enclave for The Company in the wastes.

The Company - The company is a private security contractor working for the M.A.O, the Mutant Affairs Office. They oversee the quarantine on New York city and the outlying area. Most company soldiers are anti-mutant and enjoy the control they have over the X-men, making mutants face each other to death. They are based off Salem and keep a permanent military presence in the Xavier Mansion.

Quarantine Field - Quarantine fields are a new factor in the war against mutants. No one is sure how they work or how the company managed to establish them, but they seem to be massive, invisible bubbles set up over some areas that interfere with mutant powers. Though mutant powers are usable on either side of the field, one cannot use them to go THROUGH one. Teleporting, firing a laser, flying or even sending a psychic message through a quarantine field seems impossible even for the most accomplished mutants. The fields were established about three years ago, around the same time as the Company withdrew from The Plank. The main field is set on the large quarantine wall that surrounds the southern tip of NY state, whereas a smaller one has been placed around Xavier's mansion.

Iron Teeth - The Iron Teeth band if an important, human majority MLA sub faction. Made partly of gun runners, former doomsday preppers, disgruntled anarchists and conspiracy theorists, the iron teeth care more about revenge against the government than the mutant cause, but still their goals align nicely with the rest of the MLA. Some say the Iron Teeth have contacts with the smugglers that bring in goods to the sprawl through their human members, which in turn allows them to serve as the supply arm of the MLA.

Mutant Affairs Office - The MAO is tasked with finding a way to reincorporate mutants peacefully into society, and, more importantly, finding a way to keep mutants controlled. Though the anti-mutant sentiment was high at the times of the riots, the arrests and almost decade long martial law affected friends and family of many humans, who've begun to realize the mutant problem was not someone else's deal, it was their own. Public opinion on the quarantine has begun to fall like a rock and the Office is the one government entity that gives face for the project, so they'd rather keep things as Kosher and nice as possible while removing the extremists elements of the MLA. They want to find a way to end the long war by solving the 'mutant problem' either by control and peaceful reintegration or, better yet, finding a way to nullify the X-gene permanently.

Freaks - The freaks are a trio of mutant brothers that are part of the New Brotherhood, they're battle crazed murderers, looters and pillagers who take a massive kick out of war and explosions. They believe they can take and do whatever they want as long as they're strong enough to do it. Their behavior is tolerated because they're big in the New Brotherhood and they're an enormous asset against the X-men.
